Blog—December 13, 2024—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Quite the show—lots of cooperation you normally see in media circles today.
We started with Rob Larew—President of National Farmers Union ---and Jeff Kippley who is Vice President of South Dakota Farmers Union and yes Vice President of the National Farmers Union.
We talked about the meetings this week in Huron and today in Bismarck. Who needs done---how we can work together for a farm bill and other very important get together projects.
We bragged as well about the South Dakota and North Dakota ---young people who are such a big part of agriculture today. We –as broadcasters---officers and farm organizations must work together. We did in this show----and I appreciate all the work that was done to make it happen. As you read this blog—think about the people who you wouldn’t normally see or hear—gather to share what they know.
Darren Hefty—AG PHD—yes—that Baltic boy---who loves agriculture---works to educate those in our state---and does a nationwide radio show on Sirius 143 or is it 147. We talked today about the farm bill, farm crops, the needs—our youth and what 2025 could mean. His radio show is at 2PM on Friday and I think a few other days.
Congressman Dusty Johnson joined us—he was in town working a couple of different meetings and sides of the street---Swearing in of those that wanted to be Americans as well as Speaking to a Graduation Class going to tech school. A big deal---Dusty fitted us in----and we had a chance to salute each group as well as talking about whether or not he wants to be Governor. He has found a great way to answer that question from the media---I’m just now being brought in for my latest 2 years term. Does he want to be Governor---he shouldn’t say---but I can---he wants it and how he challenges it over the 2025, 2026, and 2027 year will be interesting.
Sarah Heinrich—had the Growing Harvest Network---yes that group from Fargo works with us-----Matt Swenson had the morning commodities. Something he does well in a short period of time and then encourages people to call him for the numbers later in the day.
Iowa’s Ag Secretary Mike Naig joined us to talk about the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 HPAI) in another commercial turkey flock. This one is in Sac County, Iowa. The seventh detection within poultry in 2024.
Listening from South Dakota—and asking questions of the Iowa Ag Secretary was South Dakota State Vet---Beth Thompson----they had a great discussion—about what to look for---why it is important to work together---and even whether they would eat turkey or any fowl during this holiday season.
This was good communications---they knew each other—I work closely with both of them—and hopefully asked and got answered very important –yes very important discussions right now.
Food Safety is a concern—public health is a concern and we’ll work to do more in the days, months and years ahead.
We talked with our Ukrainian friend—Alla---she has been visiting with us for a number of years---and having attended a couple of conferences in 2024---looking at bringing more Ukrainians to South Dakota----it is a reminder that there are good people who come here from other parts of the world---and want to work and help South Dakota. It’s more than just a political football—these are people that help businesses---and we are very proud---that groups are raising money to help---and that we have been included in a number of conferences and getting people there.
We closed the show with Justin Glisin---Iowa State Climatologist who talked with us about the working together with Laura Edwards---South Dakota State Climatologist and that we will try ASAP to get the Minnesota Climatologist talking with us about the weather and how we can work together.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is a big deal—largest industry in SD---we reach out---attend conferences----meet experts and can bring topics to our radio audience. Something we enjoy doing.
