Blog-November 29, 2022—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
It’s YOUR Agri Business----and we cover a lot of ground on interesting topics.
We start with Jim Seurer---Glacial Lakes---in Watertown—a release we showed the light of day showed South Dakota 39th or having the 11th fewest EV Chargers per capita nationwide.
Bottom line with 156 electric vehicle chargers in South Dakota---that comes out to 17.5 for every 100,000 residents compared to 39.0 nationwide. That is a number that should have us asking why do they go to the West Coast----the East Coast---and little love in our central spot in the good old USA.
Jim Seurer---Glacial Lakes in Watertown---did what I hoped he would do---push the use of ethanol of the E-85 down to the E-15. We talked about the Carbon Study done by the University of Nebraska----and a good reason that with Agriculture Still #1 in the Country for South Dakota---we need to look at where we are---and how we can continue to help.
At some point the Electric Vehicles may be a different game for South Dakota----but it could well be a “Hybrid” that could use ethanol as well as plug in’s.
The “Blends” is a key---and really listening to Mr. Seurer---Ron Lambertson and Doug Bervin----who represent Ethanol centers in the state---we still need some loyalty. Both Ron and Doug took questions from 700 or so attending the National Association of Broadcasters earlier this month in Kansas City.
Guest 2---Emmett Keyser—South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. He answered our inquiries this morning with a serious uptick in Bird Flu. This time of year the Southern Migration has birds heading south for warmer climates Dead birds are being found across South Dakota—most recently—television closeups in Yankton-Vermillion area.
The Outbreaks were reported in 46 states this year—more than double the 21 states affected in 2014-2015. This is the Southern Migration----which has those in the flight pattern between here the Gulf Coast Concerned. The North Migration begins in the spring as the birds head back to our world. Turkeys and yes even pheasants and ducks have been affected.
Emmett ask for our listeners to report dead birds to the state—so they can track it and check the carcasses.
We heard from Rusty Halvorsen—Growing Harvest Report out of Fargo Midwest Sister Station. They too were concerned about the dead birds.
Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities had the up to the minute market numbers on the grains---the meat—the energy and the Big Board on Wall Street.
Brooke Henrickx---Sioux Empire Farm Show—shared we are 56 days from the start point—and all the inquiries they are getting on bringing animals to the fair—and the search they are doing for qualified judges that already is including Oklahoma, Nebraska and Montana—as well as neighboring states.
Gerri Eide—FFA of South Dakota---and State Reporter Sidney Peterson shared the preview on the State Leadership Conference that will be in Pierre. 550 are expected December 4th and 5th.
From our Kansas City National Association of Farm Broadcasters worked we heard this morning from Jimmy Taylor—Beef Checkoff out of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Ryan Jardon---from John Deere as their Go To Market Manager.
We closed the show with a snip-it of the Mr. Tree segment on picks the South Dakota Christmas Tree. John Ball is always part of the project and I think he saves up some of his tree stories for our show. I know he is good at what he does—and has helped educate hundreds at SDSU.
