(((YEE HAH----I’m Bill Zortman and WELCOME to our It’s YOUR Agri Business show---all part of the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast here in Sioux Falls ---))))

Earlier this morning I attended a good portion of the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast---lots of folks enjoying breakfast—talking Agri Business and working with the Chief voice---the 62nd Chaplain of the US Senate---Barry C Black---and as a former Navy Leader—Barry has inspired the nation with his faith, courage, and wisdom and he has spoken to the National Prayer Breakfast there as well----

He is inspiring as he tells his powerful stories of hope, service and perseverance and is inspiring to live a life that makes a difference.

You have to go back to June 27, 2003 when he was elected the 62nd Chaplain of the Senate. He started his work on July 7th that year—prior to that he on Capitol Hill—Chaplain Black served in the US NAVY for 27 years-ending his distinguished career as the CHIEF of the Navy Chaplains.

Chaplain Black is a native of Baltimore –he earned his Master of Arts degrees in Divinity, Counseling and Management ---receiving a Doctorate degree in Ministry and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology.

That’s not all he has authored 6 books beginning with his autobiography –From the Hood to the Hill in 2006---The Blessing of Adversity in 2011—Nothing to Fear 2017---Make Your Voice Heard in Heaven in 2018---Bible Wisdom for Better Living in 2019 and a Prayer for our Country -words to unite and inspire Hope in 2022.

Here is Sioux Falls—I was happy to see that this Good Friday event on April 3rd—return to the Best Western Ramkota Exhibit Hall…

I had a number of inquiry—when they heard that I was going to attend the Prayer Breakfast---if it would be part of my radio show—

The answer was yes----it was Mary Schilling who was first to ask---as a marketing consultant and Recruiting Specialist---the answer was yes

Mary even suggested a few questions---

---You’ve had an incredible journey---from Baltimore to the US Senate—when you look back—what moment stands out as the turning point in your life---

----that are a lot of people out there who feel like their story is ordinary—what would you say to someone who wonders IF THEIR LIFE can really make a difference---

----Your messages centers around hope and perseverance –what does that look like for someone going thru a tough season right now?

-----For people who may feel disconnected from faith or unsure where to start—what is one simple step they can take---

-----You have prayed in some of the most high-pressure rooms in the country—how do you personally stay grounded?

----He has written about “The Blessing of Adversity—that’s not always easy to see in the moment –how can people reframe challenges when they’re in the middle of them?

----How about one of the toughest challenges you’ve personally faced-and what did it teach you?

----From the stories I’ve heard and followed---you’ve inspired people across the country—can you share a story where you saw someone’s life truly change thru faith or encouragement

----We were very happy to have you speak here in Sioux Falls to this prayer breakfast---what drew you to be a part of this event in South Dakota?

----If someone listening could take just one action today to live a life that makes a difference—what would you encourage them to do?

----Finally—when people hear your remarkable story—what do you hope it inspires in them long after this event is over?

--study released

  Annual 211 Impact Study Released

Sioux Falls, SD (April 2, 2026) – United Way Worldwide released its annual 211 Impact Survey – including data from 211 contact centers serving all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Nationally, referrals increased to 19 million in 2025 – over 1 million more than in 2024. 211 is the go-to three-digit number that helps millions of people across the U.S. and Canada, including those in South Dakota, connect to locally available resources.

In South Dakota, 211 specialists fielded nearly 60,000 contacts and identified over 100,000 needs. Assistance with housing was the most common request, followed by food, clothing, transportation, and utility assistance. Just in January and February alone this year, 15,492 needs were identified while many individuals expressed more than one need during their contact with 211 staff. In that same timeframe the data shows that after the highly populated counties such as Minnehaha, Pennington and Lincoln counties, others that had higher contacts were Butte, Brown, Beadle and Davison.

“The data which the Helpline Center collects through our interactions with the community offers valuable insights into the trends and challenges faced by households in South Dakota said Janet Kittams, CEO of the Helpline Center. “211, which is staffed by professional community resource specialists who know the resources and supports, is improving lives and ensuring all people in South Dakota have the ability to thrive.”

Nationally, 211 is accessible to nearly 99% of the country's population. In South Dakota, the Helpline Center launched its 211 Helpline in 2001 and celebrated a major milestone in 2020 when 211 went statewide in South Dakota.

The Helpline Center encourages South Dakota residents to:

- Call, text, or email 211 if they or someone they know needs help.

- Share 211 widely with their neighbors, family, and friends to connect others to help and support.

- Advocate to your local policymakers for the importance of and need to strengthen 211.
