(((MUSIC---This OLE HOUSE)))

((((YEE HAH—I’m Bill Zortman and Welcome to our Friday Agri Business Show---show 51-96 in our ORIGINAL It’s YOUR Business Series)))

As we do on the 10:00 Agri Business show—we start with Darren Hefty—AG PHD---

----I see you have a report---and a question for the audience----

You are seeding alfalfa on your farm----(is that about the same time as recent years)

---Darren--------------

How is that different than seeding corn?

---Darren--------------

Back to the alfalfa---what does it take to get alfalfa off to a great start?

---Darren--------------

It is starting to warm up---but what did freezing temperatures do to the early planted crops?

---Darren---------------

With weather forecasts calling for dry conditions in the next week—or so—is that a good thing for most farmers in this area?

-------Darren---------------

For those that don’t know tell us about your nationwide broadcasts---and what those listening or watching—want to know---

---------Darren---------

-------Darren Hefty---Ag PHD------

Earlier this morning our good friend Greg Belfrage had in his morning show a couple of hours ago—talked with Police Chief Tune and soon to be retiring Sheriff----Mike Milstead…

I liked the way he put it---officers still run toward danger when others run away---

But you shared as well as did  Police Chief Tune---that now the job asks officers to solve crimes quickly, produce tv style evidence, handle disputes, advise people on the law and make split second decisions that come under public review---

The officers that you know in the face of tragedy will be the ones running in the door while others are running out---

The officers also carry the cost home---they miss holidays, weekends, and family milestones while their relatives absorb the demands of the job.

The mental health side worries you to—losing officers to suicide even more than those violent offenders.

It shows you spent more than 5 decades in law enforcement----joining the Sioux Falls Police Explorer program back in 1969. You became sheriff in May 1997---almost 30 years---

You joined the SF Police Explorer program 28 years earlier---with a full-time Sioux Falls Police Department established in 1973.

What would you tell young people both men and women about being a police officer---and what they should consider before they raise their hands and say yes---

One of your own—will apparently become the New Sheriff----talk to us about how you trained Captain Josh Phillips----some 20 years ago when he started?

We wish you the best Sheriff---and glad you had the chance to talk about the rising strain…

------------Sheriff Milstead--- and Chief Tunes—thanks for all you do—working to keep the peace in 2026---

---when we come back we’ll check how one bank—Plains Commerce helps those in business, agriculture, the young and the experience veterans and more just needing help.

10:20/30—KELO Commercials

10:22/00---Ag Business 2
