Blog—March 27, 2028—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday
The Working on Wellness Wednesday—did cover a wide swath of health care concerns---even a breaking news conference talked with us to talk about their tallest building ever and an expansion.

Talk about life or death---sickness or in health---it’s what we do.

We started the show with Patty Brooks-Executive Director of the Eastern South Dakota Chapter of the American Red Cross something she’s been doing since 2018.

What were we pushing? Red Cross tonight—the Arc of Dreams will light up red on what is Red Cross Giving Day.

During March—the American Red Cross is celebrating Red Cross month---

It lets us push community heroes---a fire overnight that the Red Cross was able to provide some help for---yes—when you see the Arc of Dreams—think of those community heroes.

Right behind was Dr. Allison Tendler—ART Vision Talk points---you’ll need to listen to he interview as we shared the important stuff about eye-care—what you need to know

We discussed the ART Vision Mission—why she does what she does—

We learned specifically what is Refractive Lens Exchange—and who would be a good candidate

Why not to just get LASIK---and yes it is covered by insurance. Free consultations and yes there is insurance.

It was a fact-filled interview---some light moments too---that helped us understand who is a good candidate and why.

We visited with Dr. Joshua Jorde---on this the last Wednesday of March.

Among what we heard—was that Dr. Jorde relies heavily on manual muscle testing. Lately-he’s been having a number of patients ask about neuropathy, radiculopathy, pinched nerves, and bulging discs, and if they can help—they will.

Radiculopathy stems from the nerves still within the spinal canal or as they’re leaving while neuropathy stems from an issue with the nerve after’s it’s already left the spinal canal. In essence tingling in the had could be caused by a nerve getting pinched in the lower neck, which would be radiculopathy, or a pinched nerve in the wrist which would be neuropathy.  Pain isn’t the only way a problem can show up—it’s just the most obvious way. And yes a bulging disc---the disc is the material in between the vertebra of the spine and sometimes it can shift a bit which will pinch the disc causing it to bulge out—which can put pressure on the nerve at the level as it starts to exit the spine.
If you are looking for a chiropractor who has a good grasp of muscle testing in their bag of tricks for diagnosis—turn to  Jorde—37th and Center.
We closed the hour with Mary Michaels---AARP

She always provides quite the list of topics---we actually disagreed on having a cup or two of black coffee a day can boost your brain health, lower risk of type 2 diabetes and even boost your workout because it can help improve circulation, endurance, and muscular strength.

Then there is—can your water bottle make you sick----yes it can -if you are not cleaning it –indeed it could be a health hazard. There is an article at aarp.org/health
That talks about risks—formation of molds and bacteria. Putting a sports drink in your bottle can promote bacteria growth.

We talked about the election season—people running for office—and sometimes not enough of them. The election is Tuesday April 9th---Absentee voting has already started. And yes you can vote absentee by mail. The June Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday June 4th-with absentee voting beginning April 19th.
