Blog---April 24, 2024-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show---has been covering more and more territory for sometime now. We know Agriculture is the number one industry in South Dakota---but we have so many of those engaged in agriculture come from all corners of the state and neighboring states----and all ages. We are passing the TORCH the best we know how---we have visited so many different sites----and we’ll continue to push and pull all we can.
In tis show---we started with Gerri Eide-FFA of South Dakota---and she brought along the Golden Owl Award Winner---the SD Ag Teacher of the Year. Tara Fastert shared what they do---how those that live in south Sioux Falls also are a part of the Harrisburg FFA.
In our discussions we talked about the projects---classes like food, animal science---and life’s lessons that help those whether living in the rural acres or in town -understand what this is all about.
Coming up April 25-28—Food—educators on much more. Just because the State Convention is over—Life’s Lessons continue to be learned by the Blue Coats from FFA.
Candi Briley---SD State Fair—helped us understand how they have added another fair day---in late August. Yes allows more animals---more visitors----and a chance to continue to reach out in those last days of August before we get to Labor Day. We appreciate what Candi does----how the Huron site continues to grow----and we’ll follow along chronicling stories as they do. It’s what It’s YOUR Agri Business is all about.
Nolan Clarke—Plains Commerce Bank talked about the planning they do---and he wanted us to start with the families---you---maturing—and a little older about what planning can mean. Then to the businesses and yes the farms. They have 9 locations—all started in Hoven---and we keep asking about the planning while advocating families, businesses, and farms—at least once a year or twice a year-should be discussing what they do—and how they do it.
Sarah Heinrich---Growing Harvest Network----KFGO Fargo—gave us what she is seeing-what she has learned---and she becomes another regular voice on this widely known It’s YOUR Agri Business Show----and now award winning Nationwide.
Matt Swenson gave us the morning commodities—with Swenson Commodities--- the grain—the meat---and yes the BIG BOARD on WALL STREET.
We had a chance to introduce you to AP Select----a reginal seed business with all the industry connections and production options of a national company. Growers can expect strategic expertise from people who understand the diverse needs of the area, in addition to having the freedom  to choose the best seed traits and genetics to maximize their profitability. Joining us was Rory Olerud---they claim a superior seed line that includes corn, soybeans and alfalfa ---
The promise to begin rolling out thru a seed deals network across South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska in June. You can reach them at 222.apselect.com or call 877-874-2550.
Jaime Wood—SBA of South Dakota—has been busy this week. And next week National Small Business Week kicks off with terrific in-person events in South Dakota. On Tuesday they’ll be celebrating in Rapid City with a Small Business Contracting/Exporting ,Manufacturing Seminar from 8-1 (MT) at Black Hills State University Campus.
Jaime promises a special line up from SBA Deputy Administrator Diliwar Syad and Region 8 Administrator Aikata Marcoulier. They could have chosen any state—BUT they chose South Dakota next week---they want to see the value in South Dakota and Jaime and SBA are excited to host them and showcase the great small businesses and during the seminar they are carving out some time to make several 2024 SBA SD Small Businesses of the Year Awards.
Dr. Russ Daly---a good friend from SDSU helped us understand a little better a release from FDA confirming that pasteurized milk Ordinance (PMO) destroys harmful pathogenic bacteria and other microorganisms including Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and other viruses. The data cited by FDA is consistent with many other studies demonstrating that the legally required temperature and time for milk pasteurization will readily inactive HPAI.
The Federal PMO prohibits milk from sick cows from entering the food supply chain. Milk and milk products produced and processed in the US are among the safest in the world. There are expected to be more HPAI announcements next week.
We closed the show with Iowa State Climatologist Justin Glisan. We talked about the rain in the Hawkeye state as well as expectations for the beans the corn. With Iowa Glisan and SD’s Climatologist Edwards---we get to follow along with the professionals that both state’s really look up to.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is a big deal---more and more locals—young people-organizations---businesses and those that know stuff are wanting in the show. We appreciate that –and hope you do as well.
