Blog—March 21, 2023—10-11—SD Farmers Union Show
South Dakota Farmers Union show pulled together another first in monthly shows—including a visit with Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree from the Legislative Session-----and from those working together with issues on the State’s NUMBER 1 Industry. Luke Reindl---who worked with me on this show and National Convention---was able to bring folks together—wanting to talk—wanting to be part of the process---and we utilized every heart beating second.
Casey was able to share key issues----Ag preservation bill, Zoning Board Issue---Workforce Housing Infrastructure---but how the working together ---even with the Minority Party of Oren Lesmeister---he shared his positive thoughts on working together.
The same as Mitch Richtor—who joined us live as SDFU Legislative Lobbyist---asked questions----and shared how this year they have gone from a few weeks to year around meeting to find important ag solutions.
Good forum stuff-----and lawmakers wanting to get things done---all in the name of those in our Rural Areas.
Finished the segment and felt like we were on the right track---and it was the kind of discussion we could have again.
We did talk with two of the Torch Bearers from South Dakota that made the trip and learned the ropes of the National Farmers Union Convention---Jayda Walton from Mitchell---shared her story along with Aeriel Eltreim from Roosevelt in Sioux Falls.
What did they learn---they learned more about the process of getting bills passed in session---working together---adding amendments—and doing more than just looking under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Our audience heard from Rachel Kippley---Jeff’s Wife—that was on the National Podium doing his work---she said she didn’t tell him what to say---but appreciated how hard he worked for agriculture, South Dakota—and their family.
We also talked with Scott Bluebaugh---State Leader in Oklahoma who made the trip—and has been part of the understanding on working together among that’s to find solutions and who knows what else a handshake and a smile might do.
Rocky Foreman—was sharing not only what happened in San Francisco as well as the plans ahead for the Farm Safety Quiz Bowl. Rocky is always there for the kids—safety visits—State Fairs----and just letting them know the importance of being safe. He is good at what he does—and the kids appreciate his solid attitude.
We also got some insight from SDSU’s Anthony Bly------he was talking about the soil needs the crops---and how they are watching closely the amount of moisture we have had in 2023.
Anthony –made it simple—not snow or no snow----but what to watch for—how to know and how you can ask----what’s best on your land.
We know there is a fly-in coming in mid-April----to Washington DC—we are making our plans to cover with the help of those SD Farmers Union members who will seek out Senators Rounds and Thune---and Congressman Johnson. We’ll check the preparations—the questions and the answers in our show scheduled for either April 12th or 19th.
The SD Farmers Union---is a pleasure me to offer to our friends in South Dakota and surrounding states. We have put together people who want to talk—regardless of age—or what they do---and we are building a feel we are in this together. THANK YOU!!!
