Blog—June 6, 2023-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Rather unusual day---for It’s YOUR Business and It’s YOUR Agri Business. But one we will remember.
While we were doing the 9-10 and 10-11 show---the Minnehaha County Commissioners were meeting and revoting on the pipeline question. A few weeks ago the vote was 2-2. Today while we loaded the boat to talk to both sides of the issue----the vote was 4-1 FOR with a 330 foot setback per residence. Commissioner Dean Karsky texted me the information----while our Tom Rooney was monitoring the vote and the discussion in the KELO-Newsroom.
One of those we talked to was Elizabeth Burns Thompson with Navigator—one of the two companies involved. She shared with us her thoughts---and why it was so important to farm families to approve this with the EV’s moving in threatening many with their hopes for ethanol in the future.
In our 9:00 Hour---representing the other side---Doug Sombke—President of South Dakota Farmers Union basically was saying to all involved—“Not so fast my friends.”
Those in Aberdeen last week approved the setback of 1500 feet from the residence—more than 4 times than what was approved in Minnehaha County.
Bob Mundt—SF Development Foundation talked with us about the attention they are getting around the country for businesses---taking advantage of the reputation this area has developed thru the years.
We talked about the Cooperation between Sioux Falls and Rapid City---INTERN Sioux Falls coming this summer---STEM Camp at Augustana –June 12-14---Career Connections this Fall---and the Road and Sewer Construction at Foundation Park North.
Sarah Heinrich—KFGO Fargo—provide the GROWING HARVEST Network---Matt Swenson—the up-to-the-minute Commodities----
Brooke Hendrickx did a countdown to the Sioux Empire Fair—including Ag Appreciation Day.
Candi Briley—SD State Fair—updated us on the countdown to the State Fair—beginning August 31st----all the events that are happening before hand---and the changes fair goers will see on the Labor Day week and weekend.
Gerri Eide—FFA of South Dakota—talked about the work they are doing---introducing to us—Dustin Kolb---State VP for Belle Fouche.
WE talked about why FFA is important---how it brings students---and adults together from all over the state and nationwide. Yes FFA is a big part of the South Dakota State Fair and we’ll follow along as well.
Cindi Heidelburger Larson---talked to us their projects. 97% of 4th graders are a part of Groundworks----and they are working to get 5th Graders next. This project has been fun to watch thru the years--- and we’ll continue to promote the state’s number one industry and Groundworks—which continues to swell-statewide.
We closed the hour with a guest we called at the last moment. Mr. Golf Dave Austad-brought us into the light---with the surprise news that the PGA and LIV golf circuits are working on a merge. It will take months to accomplish----but can put to bed a lot of the ugly feelings---that occurred in the last 2 years. We’ll continue the discussion on Friday.
Our It’s YOUR Ag Business Show---is available LIVE at KELO-AM 1320, or 107.9 or
------the KELO website.
