Blog-June 26, 2024—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday-----45-15
Our Working on Wellness Wednesday show---and with the floods---and damage to homes and buildings—while I was away visiting with new great-grand-babies it was a whole lot different for this week.
Waters made a difference----and we talked with Joe Kipley—the new Sioux Falls City Health Director—talked about his new duties---the moisture—the concern for health in general in Sioux Falls. Joe and his family are old friends----and he shared how Health came into play last week. How hospitals---and medical care was alert—and what they did to make sure that we were doing was as healthy as possible.
What Joe did get to see was how the system worked. Avera—Sanford---the Mayor and team and the Governor. He was quite the observer---and we know that he will be as much a benefit---rather than pests like the mosquitos that were in play.
We have invited Director Kipley to be with us at least once a month---much like we have offered the South Dakota State Health Director. They also have an open invitation to jump on the air when the audience really needs to know.
Dr. David Basel---Avera---was with us—he was able to talk to us about the diseases—like tetanus and other infection caused by dirty flood water and cuts from debris during cleanup.
Dr. Basel warned as a well to make sure your date on vaccinations are up to date---and to dress appropriately with the right gear to assist in cleanup efforts.
Worry as well about heat and hydration things to keep in mind. Ensure you limit exposure to heat and cool off when you can. Yes drink water and please replenish electrolytes.
Exertion injuries and heart attacks can strike if you over do it and are not prepared.
Dr. Basel---and I seem to talk about dangerous conditions---and we do so—to help those that think it may be true ---but need a Dr. Basel to explain it.
What about on the chiropractic side-----Dr. Joshua Jorde among his points!
We’ve definitely got way too much rain lately and Dr. Jordee was wondering what he could try and about relating to it.
He came up with suck pumps, shop vacs, tearing up carpet. Unfortunately most of the advise he felt he could give about handling all that was pretty similar to any other vacuum use (oh yes-just bend at the waist and switch sides on occasions if able and heavy duty activities in general should have you taking frequent breaks.
But he should talking about swimming—even besides the flooding brining water to mind very clearly, it’s getting into the thick of summer anyway and swimming is definitely on a lot of kids’ minds. Swimming is one of the best exercises a person can do for low back pain to help strengthen the back without also aggravating it in the process.
A big concern for those in chiropractic case is the fact that swimming can help with self-care for low back issues that we frequently trat, has to do with how we often handle low back injuries in our clinic specifically
In essence—he wants people to take care of “your” spine, get out there and work on strengthening your spine and if you still need help caring for it---pick the trio of doctors at Jorde Chiropractic Clinic.

----we talked about the Suicide Grief  being different—when a loved one dies by suicide there are often differences to someone who has died by other means----
Most suicides come unexpectedly to loved ones and cause a variety of emotions and thoughts. Often there is a period of shock after the sudden death and the normal that was felt before seems like it can never be found again. Your body can go thru periods of having high energy or where you can’t get yourself out of bed for the day. Also if you were the one who found your loved one that can cause a great deal of post-traumatic stress that can bring back flashbacks or  nightmares, making you feel hypervigilant or on edge.
Our Working on Wellness Wednesday Show gives us a different approach to life—and some help to live it to it’s fullest.
