Blog-January 11, 2022—10-11—SD Farmers Union Show
Once a month---on the 2nd Tuesday of the month---we share the Agri Business Stage with the largest of the South Dakota Farm Organizations---South Dakota Farmers Union.
No Doug Sombke---and Wayne Soren—President and Vice President of the South Dakota SDFU----but we are well represented with other story lines---other venue’s—things that matter just 11 days in 2022.
Luke Reindl---who works on the stage putting events together---occasionally joins we in studio---to pull together some very important—and “stout” story lines that make-up the hour.
Today—we start with the President of the National Farmers Union—Rob LaRew.
With all the running-hot-n-cold matters that go thru DC and then onto the nation---it’s a great place for us to start the 2022 year.
We’ll try to digest the kind of policies that get a lot of talk---but don’t always get a lot of change.
Republicans talk one way---Democrats the other----but are there not some reason that we don’t get more done----even more in the face of a COVID 19 scenario that just continues to form –even with another variant.
Ethanol---meat packers-----trade----all story-lines that we are hearing to close 2021 and start 2022.
We’ll ask President Larew—to share what he hopes for in 2022---what we need to be doing to work together---and what happens if we don’t have some success TOGETHER.
2nd guest is President of the Oklahoma Farmer’s Union—Scott Blubaugh.
Big issue in the last month was 4 packing company that have increased their profits—while cattlemen and cattle women—from the Dakotas—Iowa—neighboring states and even as far south as Oklahoma---have brought the President and the White House into it.
President Blubaugh—was not only featured in the session in White House—though a few had to be zoomed in----but with us---and even Network organizations like Fox.
A few weeks later—he’s back with us----to discuss what was asked for---what has happened and what he thinks we need to see happen.
Meanwhile at the meat market-place---those shopping are complaining about how much higher a cut of beef and other groceries are running. We’ll have that discussion---and see what he believes the White House will do---those in Congress---and well as the packers and those that need meat to feed their families.
10:33---we’ll visit with Mitch Richtor—in Pierre on the day we are doing the show—within 2 hours of when Governor Noem will share his message.
South Dakota lawmakers and business men and women got an advance listen to the message in a special event Monday night at the Capital.
With the Governor’s address—the session does get rolling this week---after the big bash is bucks—more bucks than we have ever had to spend----and some like Noem saying we have to save for a rainy day as well.
Mitch will give us the speel—and just how well farm organizations are going to need to work together in the 2022 session.
South Dakota Farmers Union –Man in Motion—Rocky Forman—is back from a young producers conference the first weekend of January---
The purpose was obviously networking to promote our next generation of farmers and ranchers---hopefully to have our fair share become teachers in agriculture.
We’ll see Rocky’s take—and his outlook for today, tomorrow and beyond.
We close the show with FFA State Secretary Hadley Steifvater from Salem---we’ll talk about not only the District Officer Training but the Legislative Breakfast Wednesday and Thursday. Among the items—a new campaign with SD Farmers Union.
The discussion will include a campaign that SDFU will be the first donor to invest in support of endowing a Leadership Development position for South Dakota FFA
So that is our 1st show blue-print for 2022----
Listen live at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—Streaming on line---even at SDFU offices---or you can just ask Alexa.
