Blog—December 6, 2024-10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Darren Hefty—AG PHD –led us off in the show---we talked as we like to do on Friday---about what is going on in Agriculture in this area—and nationwide with his Sirius Radio gig that takes calls from around the nation and the globe. We get to learn a couple of the key points that are important in agriculture.
What he shared today---seed ordering---farmers are for the most part out of the fields—and looking to 2025. We talked as well about the farm bill----or lack there of----was it Darren or his brother that did the best in 2024? Darren shared they both did very well.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank---took in a Dairy Conference in Minnesota this week. He explained that yes agriculture and conferencing is part of his job—and what he learned meeting with others in the big city. We like to follow along on with those conferences---and then connect those that attend with those that want to know what was learned. Brent will join us Monday and Wednesday next week in his usual show slots.
Danita Murray---SD Corn---we wanted to know what her members want to accomplish with this year’s crop—and again how are we ever going to get a farm bill passed. They do have a conference coming soon—and we will follow along with that—as well as Soybeans with Jerry Schmitz.
One of the big events that our Midwest Stations has been doing this week---is the Sanford Radio-thon. Two of our stations are asking and helping collection donations to help the families and the kids.
Bethany Olson---shared 7 minutes with us—and we talked about the Radio-thon---and how people can help. It was closing at 6PM today—and she has promised to join us Monday—to explain how it went—and kind of kids and families that were helped. I have kids, grandkids, and a dozen great grandkids---so I care—and want them to get help with this project or in their own communities in all sections of the country. Hopefully there are other Sanford’s out there that are making a difference.
Sarah Heinrich—had the Growing Harvest Network----Matt Swenson---the Swenson Commodities---
Brandon Hanson---Downtown Sioux Falls provided quite the list of opportunities to go downtown for events---and to visit merchants in time for Christmas. We like to work with our Downtown friends—it brings it people that care –need this or that---and appreciate having so many choices for the Holiday Season and special occasions.
Alla Kureninvoa---has been our eyes and ears for Ukraine. South Dakota has provided some support—I’ve attended a couple of events---and the feel from those—people who came from Ukraine have a lot in common with South Dakota. They are hard working people and for the states that haven’t taken to the Ukrainians--- we’ll be happy to put them to work in our state of South Dakota.
We’ll keep an eye on the opportunities—and continue to share how we can work together.
Laura Edwards---SD State Climatologist talked to us about the warmer days this weekend----the wind –being more north or south----and what we might see for Christmas. We’ll see how we get thru the on-again off-again snow—and live thru the 50’s the next couple of days.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—continues to reach more and more people with stories. We work ahead to educate the audience whether they be ag or business young or old—living east or west.
Norm Anderson will post the show as a podcast. I write this blog as a guide to what is in the show—and generally where to find it.
