Blog-December 14, 2021-10-11—South Dakota Farmers Union Show

  What a perfect set up.

2nd Tuesday of the month 10-11—we do the South Dakota Farmers Union Show—heard statewide---live—and then available by podcast on the South Dakota Farmers Union website—along with our KELO-AM website.

Perfect because the 106th Annual South Dakota Farmers Union Statewide Convention begins Thursday—continuing Friday in Huron.

In the show---Wayne Soren—Vice President –South Dakota Farmers Union and Luke Reindl—who works with me to put the show together---and make sure we provide all the moving parts that fit into the hour.

Among the topics we plan to discuss in our first segment with Wayne and Luke:

  • Recap of the year in SD Agriculture
  • So with what we learned—how and what way do we move forward in 2022
  • We’ll talk about the Convention—including fact sharing panel of Heidi Heitkamp, Zach Ducheneaux, National Farmers Union President Rob Larew.

In our second segment we put Oren Lesmeister to work who is moderating the Industrial Hemp Panel. We’ll talk about the recap of the State/Federal Ruling—how the Industrial Hemp can be -as it has in other states be a viable crop for the future of South Dakotans.

Obviously we’ll mix in medical marijuana—cannabis---what the legislature will eventually do too.

10:33---Mike Stranz—National Farmers Union Government Relations shares with us the updates on the livestock mandatory price reporting –the Livestock Contract Library---Build Back Better---principally the biofuels provision.

Also to be discussed—livestock mandatory price reporting, the livestock contract library, BUILD BACK Better—and obviously the bio-fuels provisions—that seem to get less attention then plugging in vehicles for power to head down the road.

10:45—Mitch Richtor—SD Farmers Union Lobbyist –is in Washington DC as we do the show---he was trying to explain what he was doing—but he’ll have to do that this morning.

Mitch will have a feel on what the Governor’s speech did for two of his wants---better salaries for teachers and medical workers---that both are ranked 50th or not much better. We’ll get his take on Pierre—what is expected to the 2022 session---

  ----and---------

  • Budget surplus
  • Medicaid expansion will be on the ballet
  • His over-all session preview

---and will Farm Organizations like Farmers Union—still meet during the regular session hoping to be able to come together—and show some harmony in agriculture.

Laura Edwards –State Climatologist will close the show ---after a week of historic tornado paths that apparently hit 240 or 250 miles from Arkansas to Illinois—with hard hit Kentucky---are we in for perhaps an eye-brow raising spring…plus we’ll look to close the year and what she will remember for 2021.

Listen live at 1320-105.1-107.9---use the KELO App—Streaming anyplace in South Dakota and beyond.

Norm Anderson will have the show posted in the form of a PODCAST –by NOON on the day this show runs.

To find it—go to the KELO-AM Website—look for PODCAST—It’s YOUR Business—and this case the SD Farmers Union Show –December 14, 2021.
