Blog—December 10, 2024—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

Much of the It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—dealt with the upcoming South Dakota Farmers Union Convention coming up Wednesday and Thursday in Huron.

The Wednesday show—will have the Dakota Farmers Union Convention from 9-11.

So in this show we started with long-time friend and leader Karla Hofhenke—so set the stage for the Convention and issues that are expected to be discussed with more than 200 attendees.

We shared the guests for the conference—

  • Livestock Health---Beth Thompson State Vet

  • Conservative Regenerative Ag---Jared Knock—VP of Ag Innovation Agspire

  • Weather—Eric Snodgrass—High Impact Meteorology

  • Matt Roberts---Economist, Surviving and Thriving in the Crazy World

  • National Farmers Union---Jeff Kippley—VP

  • Federal Programs—Ryan Vanden Berge—Deputy SED for SD Farm Service Agency

  • Rob Larew –National Farmers Union President was also on my list----and we have a speaking request in as well

SDSU is putting out information for a conference that will start 2025 out with Robin Salveron---who was a part of this 10-11 Show.

DSU Annie’s Project—for women Agriculture

Joni Ekstrom----explained their December 12th event at the Sanford Virtual Care Center—Thursday 5-630 . Good stuff on both interviews that you will want to listen to.

Sarah Heinrch—KFGO Fargo had the Growing Harvest Network---and Matt Swenson---the Morning Commodities—around the half hour.

Been awhile since I visited with Christy Vastenhout—McCrossan Boys Ranch. We talked about the December 19th-McCrossan Middle and High school Chamber ribbon cutting. 11-20 teachers---60 boys---who come and work the animals—the studies –and yes some track and field. It all spells a bright future for McCrossan Boys Ranch---with the help of parents—teachers—and the community. You –I’m sure won’t mind if we keep an on how this works and we’ll try to help as well.

Sue Thesenga—US Red Cross—helped us understand the importance of this time of year. Not only the love and the gifts---but perhaps taking love and the gifts and giving blood. Blood can be given every 56 days---and it’s a tight walk right now and blood of all types are needed. Yes we were soliciting---and yes we were hoping and some of us praying that we will have enough to take care of the emergencies. Those who come to the event will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Those who come to give December 16-January 3 will receive an exclusive Red cross long-sleeved T-shirt while the supplies last. If you can’t donate blood—you can support the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross in other ways.

Joni Eckstrom---talked with us about their December 12th 5-:30PM event at the Sanford Virtual Care Center. It will be a festive evening of networking, conversation and holiday cheer. You are asked to celebrate or reconnect with the biotech community. Why not build new connections.

Sarah Heinrich had the Growing Harvest Network update from Fargo—sister station KFGO. Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities gave us the commodities---

Mr. Tree---John Ball dismissed class at 10:47 this morning—and was on the It’s YOUR Business Show by 10:48. We talked about the first Christmas tree in 2024----cut down for the Capital and the Governor---it came from Mobridge. Quite by accident I called on the day Mr. Tree was helping supervise the tree and its delivery on to Pierre.

In this show –he suggested not only how to cut down your Christmas tree—but to please, please keep it moist—even wet during this holiday season. It was a busy year for tree—not only his class instructions—but traveling around the country from the East to the West and quite a few stops in-between.

There is only “1” Mr. Tree-----and he provides a laugh or two---some seriousness and loves his trees and those who cherish them.

We closed the show Justin Glisin—Iowa State Climatologist---we talked about the snow—the colder temperatures and what to expect two weeks from now for Christmas. Justin and South Dakota’s Laura Edwards –are good climatologist—they work well together---and they have both suggested that a few times in 2025—we also include Minnesota Climatologist to their mix as well.

Our It’s YOUR Business and Agri Business Shows---looks for those that have stories to tell—that help not only those in agriculture---but in-town communities. I’m so thankful to be able to bring what they share to the audience---as we will reach 5,000 radio shows -sometime in 2025.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—or streaming on line. Norm Anderson will post the show as a podcast—go to the KELO-AM Website—look for It’s YOUR Business or Ag Business---punch the date and time of the show---and listen.

My job is to write the blog—which helps share who is in the show—and some of the things we covered. Questions for me—feel free to call/text at 605-728-2455 (BILL) or email me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com.
