Blog-September 8, 2020—10-11—SDFU ---Biz Show

  It’s the 2nd Tuesday of September---and the South Dakota State Fair has just closed—while many others didn’t open.  This road map to the show---the blog of what we expected gives you a feel for what and where for the 53 minutes.

 

  Doug Sombke—President of the South Dakota Farmers Union---and his team have shared the farm facts---the findings---a look to fuel—to the future----and to those in agriculture.

 

  Candi Briley—South Dakota State Fair---opens the door. There were a lot of states wishing they could open for their own State Fair in 2020—Covid times---but they chose not to.

 

  We’ll find out the mood---the importance of the event----why those from FFA and 4-H were given an opportunity to do their things. Animals were included from not only South Dakota but neighboring States.

 

   Some of the events that were wanted included the special South Dakota Farmers Union luncheon---with those entering paying in a few coins –would was suffered by plate would be what the farmer would get for profit or at least payment from the meal.

 

   Safety was a key issue---lots of scrubbing—lot of cleaning—masks were found but not required----

 

   RFA’s Geoff Cooper---and NFU’s Anne Steckle talk about the state of ethanol—or the lack there of at 10:19---

 

   We’ll find out what the take is from Cooper, Steckle, Sombke---on ethanol---talk about the upcoming fly-in to Washington DC---and just how financially hurt those in Ag have been with trade, ethanol, marketplace---here and there----in this segment.

 

    We’ll get the insights---and share just before 10:29---Tom Kirshenmann—605-351-5381

 

    A brief segment at 10:33---South Dakota Game Fish and Parks---there are some changes in pheasant hunting days---we’ll get the insight –including the simplification of the start time for pheasant hunting (10AM Central) for the entire season---the work on extending the pheasant hunting season thru January 31st.

 

    Plus there were some changes with turkey units—bobcats---and rules that would recruit and reactivate duck hunters into the field next fall.

 

    10:42---Jamie Wood—SBA---we’ll talk about paycheck protection program---which ended in August---25% just over 22,600 of small businesses leveraged PPP, average loan was $74K—total loan volume for PPP was $1.7 billion.

    She’ll give us some of the other numbers---on disaster loans---

 

    Plus congratulate—Advance Sunflower—owner Danny Dale---Huron based company—the 2020-Exporter of the year.

 You’ll meet the Rural Dakota Pride Winner---Joyce Heath of Winner.

 

  We’ll talk about the award she won—how she can’t say no---and how she likes to make people happy. She gives back to the Winner Community----and we’ll hear from a real winner this morning.

 

    Laura Edwards—South Dakota State Climatologist---gives us an update on the weather expectations for those in agriculture—and those that count on Agriculture in our final segment.

 

    Snow in the west---frost scattered---and the harvest---well—we’ll check on that too.
