Blog-August 31, 2021—10-11—SD Farmers Union Biz Show

The South Dakota Farmers Union Show was moved this month---because of the Sioux Empire Fair.

Today---on the last Tuesday of August---we have a chance to look ahead to the South Dakota State Fair—and a number of other key issues facing the membership—all in agriculture and those that agriculture helps serve.

Wayne Soren---South Dakota Farmers Union—Vice President and Luke Reindl—the public organizer for content for this show and many other events will be live in studio.

We start with Zach Ducheneaux—FSA Administrator.

There is a lot of concern about the Food Supply Chain---with Security in the USA. We’ll talk about that security---what is important---and with all the turmoil in the world---how we can be a steo agead,

Healthy Soils and Climate Smart Agriculture seems to be a big focus---and we’ll help those in agriculture this morning to know where they can go to get their individual questions answered.

Justin Tupper is Vice President of the US Cattlemen’s Association. We’ll get an up-date on what the association is working on in the midst of cattle crisis in the USA.

Tupper did testify before Congress---we’ll ask if they understood—or what we need to do get them understand the ABC’s of beef.

10:20---We’ll visit with David Benson—with an arm of the American Cancer Society—looking to get some help that will stay in South Dakota with Medicaid Expansion. The fear is that those dollars earmarked for South Dakota could go to other projects in bigger states—and the losers would be those in South Dakota that need Medicaid help.

In the 2nd Half of the Farmers Union Hour—you’ll meet Kalen Harris—Bennett County—how they have brought their family together and the hope is to go beyond the 5th generation of agriculture to 6th and 7th. The stories on how the family came together—went off to college to find ways to make what they do as modern and as efficient as possible.

Anne Steckle—is a National Farmers Union Biofuels Specialist. She has ties to the mid-west—and we’ll talk a little bit with her about Bio Fuels---EPA Mandates on Biofuels---and why we need to push as hard today and tomorrow as those that are pushing electric modes of transportation.

10:45---you’ll meet Doug Kazmerzak—one of the South Dakota Farmers Union Rural Dakota Pride Honorees. He shares quite the story on volunteering –among the projects the Laura Wilder Ingles Pageant each year. Kazmerzak has a lot of talent---and we convinced  him to share a little Elvis that he does to great a giving spirit. Graceland Mansion in Memphis may never be the same.

Laura—Edwards—SD State Climatologist will share if the moisture will continue—and where—what to expect for the South Dakota State Fair that starts Thursday---and for the fall months and important harvest ahead.

The South Dakota Farmers Union is now in their 2nd Century---they work hard for the thousands that need those supporting agriculture to come together for the good of the state’s biggest industry.
