Blog-August 11, 2020—SD Farmers Union---Agri Business Show

Once a month---South Dakota Farmers Union works with me to produce an hour of important information for their 20,000 or so members----and those in agriculture—or looking to agriculture to provide them food on their tables.

In this month’s show---South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke joins me practicing “social distancing” for a location miles away from our 13th and Phillips location in Sioux Falls.

But we make the show official---share the show on not only our KELO-AM website but the South Dakota Farmers Union Official Website.

We start in Wisconsin with Darin Von Ruden---Wisconsin Farmers Union…

Our discussion will center around federal monies that need to be going to the appropriate small family farmers. Something that as 60 Minutes explained a few months ago wasn’t happening and probably wouldn’t. Mr. Sombke was a part of the 60 Minutes Interview along with his counter-part from North Dakota.

Mr. Von Ruden will help us look at what was ---what is---and what we need to do to improve the situation.

Jamie White—is the Executive Director of FSA---we’ll update CFAP payments that have gone out to producers who have applied---and we’ll ask when the remaining 20% will be disbursed.

Can producers still apply---and what about CFAP Part 2---we’ll ask about information or details or another CFAP---will it be different from the first funding?

10:32---you’ll meet Steve McCance—SDFU Farm/Ranch Family of the month.

Interesting discussion---with this one time football quarterback---and how his family today has another Quarterback playing at Wayne State---and just how they as a family when they start something finish it. Multi-generational farm family that knows how to call the signals and work together for their family, their community and agriculture.

Anthony Bly---SDSU Extension Field Specialist---will give us a look at crops around South Dakota---where are we---what can we still reach----are bugs a real issue this year and you can bet that President Sombke and farm-fed Bill Zortman will have get some good answers.

Now that the Sioux Empire Fair has been completed along with a few other County Fairs in South Dakota---the look is towards the South Dakota State Fair. Candi Briley—a frequent guest on our regular It’s YOUR Business and Agri Business shows---will share what to do look for this year----what had to be changed----and just how South Dakota can have a State Fair when our neighbors in North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska and can’t.

We close the hour with South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards. This weather family talks to students and farmers across South Dakota on a regular basis.

Today we’ll look at what Laura sees all around the State---what she expects this week---where do we need moisture---and.

Our Blog for the South Dakota Farmers Union Show---makes this the show of record with it being posted on the SDFU Website.

From our end of the broadcast band---what South Dakota Farmers Union does is important to all of us-----including those on the farms---in our communities---and even those in Pierre and Washington DC.
