Blog—August 1, 2023—10-11—It’s YOUR Ag Business

It’s YOUR Agri Business—did a little road work today.

Minnesota Farm Fest—which we have traditionally attended---we interviewed Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Peterson----National Farmers Union President Rob Larew---and from Reaves Building Judd---in the Reaves Booth. The Minnesota Farm Fest---that is around Redwood Falls---Morgan and Morton Minnesota Opened today---and all it lacked was us being there.

But Commissioner Peterson—shared a visit he had with 50 Farmers on site—that wanted to talk about the drought---and the importance of the farm bill---foreigners buying land in the Dakotas and Minnesota has dangers---and how Minnesota has two pipelines that they are watching closely.

Rob Larew—did talk about the farm bill---the concerns Farmers Union Members have about Eminent Domain and the Pipeline---Mr. Larew (President Larew) will be with us in Mitchell for the South Dakota Farm Fest in a couple of weeks.

Judd was able to talk to us about what they expect at the Minnesota Farm Fest—direction things are going—and what is trending in the request their customers have.

Congressman Dusty Johnson---talked to us about the Farm Bill-----the pipeline concerns---what he is hearing across South Dakota.

There was some new –news out of the PUC hearings in Pierre and around the country SDFU’s David Smith shared what he was seeing---

Navigator is unwilling to wait until PHMSA rule making is complete and they will be grandfathered in based on the rule implementation date. If leak occurred 100 yards from property—it will hurt land values or will it? Navigator says no—PUC staff say it might be based on realtors’ disclosure agreement.

Pipeline cannot be used for anything else because of landowner’s easements—states a carbon pipeline and the company would have to go Infront of the PUC Board.

Pipeline approvals—not permitted in Illinois so far but Illinois staff have recommended denial of the project –based on safety hazards. Iowa—no schedule for a procedural hearing---Minnesota—entirely difference process because Navigator can not claim power on eminent domain.

We heard from Sarah Heinrich—KFGO Growing Harvest Network---Matt Swenson with our first morning commodities for August—which were lower.

Julie Hammer—Sioux Empire Fair—continued her tour of what to expect—including the Pioneer Lane Church, Art Center entries ---and the Friday opening. We listen on the music—the food---and of course Ag Appreciation Day.

Danita Murray—SD Corn shared their plans for the Sioux Empire Fair---and of course they will be South Dakota Farm Fest in Mitchell---later in the month. As far as taking a position on the Pipeline—much like SD Soybeans ---their membership is divided and talks to continue.

Casey Crabtree—talked with us about the Rounds amendment that passed that pushed away foreign ownership. Lots of talk –still questions about are they good foreign owners or bad---and what should the states do. Not to mention ESTATES.

Jaime Wood—SBA of South Dakota---introduced us to Salas Salsas in Sioux Falls---she is a certified chef and pilot—has a popular food truck---and her amazing salsa business is growing rapidly.

Our It’s YOUR Ag Business—does salute ag as the #1 industry in South Dakota. We do the show and touch a lot of important information bases.
