Blog-April 28, 2023—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our last SHOW of April---and we’ll include some comings and goings---and changing of time and eras.
Darren Hefty—AG PHD—leads off the show---we talk about the planting that has begun—he’ll update---and perhaps explain fertilizer, manure, tillage and just how the Hefty’s and farmers make their very important decisions.
I see planting populations is pretty doggone important in our discussion today. Even variable rate fertilizer maps—and how farmers utilize precision ag tools.
We always appreciate him joining us Friday morning before he does his 2PM Sirius 147 National and yes world-wide show in the afternoon. He is important to you---and to us---and all of agriculture.
SDFU’s Doug Sombke sent me a note about ethanol----back in the country-side I called home in the 1990’s to early 2000---the Gulf Coast Waters from Pascagoula to Biloxi—and into Louisiana and Texas. Chevron just did a test run to show the potential of a new fuel that could be an AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVE to electric vehicles. Chevron developed the fuel that is 40% less carbon intensive that conventional gasoline. Toyota supplied the vehicles to show the fuels works in a passenger car, an SUV and a pickup truck. Even with the recent push to convert to electric vehicles, 95% of the cars and trucks on the road in the US still run on gasoline. By using this new blend it would have lower carbon emissions faster and more economically than switching to electric vehicles.
Mr. Sombke will join us as will Jim Seurer—Glacial Lakes. Comes at a time that prices will head higher starting Monday—and we want to help anyway we can.
We’ll also check in on the announcements from last night’s Harrisburg Event—that was going to talk not only a mid-major Hotel for Harrisburg---but a Sioux Metro Growth Alliance announcing its first full-time partnership offering direction and leading development.
Lisa Zens is back with us---and with the membership services including not only Harrisburg, Lennox, Worthing, Dell Rapids and Salem---and Harrisburg will be the first SMGA member to leverage a full-time economic development partnership with the organization because of its success in the program thus far.
Around the half hour—we’ll hear from Sarah Heinrich—KFGO Growing Harvest---and Matt Swenson with the morning commodities. He’ll also wrap how the numbers looked in April.
Jaime Wood—SBA of South Dakota—recaps her statewide visit with businesses across South Dakota—and we’ll kick off May with the National Small Business Week.
We always appreciate having Jaime and Bryson Patterson keep us posted on due dates on projects—and who they are finding that is making a difference across South Dakota.
This afternoon at 3PM—I’m invited to a thank you for Roger Starks—Marsh McClennan Agency. He is retiring today---and his son Travis—who with Roger have made up the best father son-team I know---will reflect and look ahead. We included some of the insights we learned this week in our interview with THE ROGER Starks.
We close the hour with Alla---the Ukraine updates---getting a little tougher---but she continues to help us share the stories---of her sisters who moved here in the last year—and her mom who joined them Salem a few weeks ago. But where are we—what else can we do---we’ll discuss this morning---and let them know as Congressman Dusty Johnson did this week in a talk I heard before the Downtown Rotary Club—that Ukraine is indeed the good guys and gals.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show covers a lot of topics and so much more---as we will hit 4100 shows never week.
