George V Johnson Jr.is a master of the art of Jazz Vocalese. This lyricist, actor, playwright, producer, promoter, composer and contributing editor was born in Washington DC. He attended Prince George's Community College Howard University School of Fine Arts. Named "Heir Apparent", by the Father of Vocalese, the late Eddie Jefferson.
His career spans over 45 years. He has shared the stage with many jazz giants. George was privileged to make his first recording debut with Legendary Pharoah Sanders on the LP Rejoice in 1981 featuring original lyrics to John Coltrane’s Classic "Moments Notice!"
Since retiring from New Jersey Transit Rail as a train conductor several years ago, Johnson's career has been on the move. His recent tours include: Denmark, Israel, Parma Italy, Atlanta, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Montenegro with "Made In New York All Stars", performing for President Filip Vujanovic, Kansas City - American Jazz Museum, Detroit Jazz Festival, Steinway Jazz Cafe, DC Jazz Festival at the National Gallery of The Art Sculpture Gardens entertaining more than 16,000 fans.
Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic George was featured weekly with Donvonte McCoy Quintet at the Eighteenth Street Lounge.
