Hr1: Danny Smith, Gerry Dulac

Published Oct 31, 2024, 3:15 PM
Danny Smith is at it again with another funny quote the guys can’t stop laughing about. Gerry Dulac joins to discuss the state of the Steelers ahead of the bye weekend.

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig Wolfley and Max Starks.

We are definitely in this again. But I've told them to stay the hell away from you. And I got three hundred pounders shaking me and stuff. Dan Morgan shakes me after that one game. He said, I didn't know you were so lightly.

What the hell do you think I'd do?

I ain't lifting Wayne three hundred pounds? And you stay the hell away from me.

Just crazy things like that.

And it's been fun for me. But they beat the hell out of me that day.

Man, I'm sore. How did he play?

I'm probably gonna be the first coach you see on the sideline his shoulder Penailmen.

You know this guy is really coming along.

You know what, I give him star status, says Shoot, let's let's even call it superstar. You know he's a Western PA guy, A Pittsburgh Central Catholic, played at Edinburgh University coach at both places.

He's a little bit.

Hyperbolic intentions tequila and choose bubblegum like Kyi donuts. Danny Smith is becoming an exellent treasure Max.

Yes, yes he is.

He's just absolutely amazingly funny.

I mean, and he is just and it's just and that's just him. Is that like he's trying. That's the other thing. Now, he just sees things a certain way. I mean, he.

And he's gonna tell it from his perspective, man, and it's just it is hilarious.

Stay ahead, stay the hell away from me. You know.

Can you imagine Danny wearing shoulder pads and helmet jersey on the sidelines. He looked like one of those guys trick or treating tonight as a steeler.

Yeah, you need you need to give him like a pumpkin, you know, like going those plastic pumpkins for a candy bag.

No question, plastic pumpkin. And you know, it's like you have to have like the socks that are just a little bit like.

Two oversized, you know what I'm saying, oversize, like tu socks.

Yeah, you know who he reminds me of Adam Sandler. What was that water Boy?

Oh yeah, he's wearing a single bar when everybody else is wearing normal stuff.

You're like, oh, man, think about that though.

You think about Adam Sandler man and you know what was his name, Bobby Bobby, Bobby Bobby, that's right, Bobby bo.

Maybe we call him Danny Bouchet.

Yeah, ect exactly.

He talks a lot like him. I mean, I like the southern.

From Western PA water boy.

Yeah.

Oh is he something? I mean, he's well, he is the special teams coach.

Extraordinary. Look at this is what I love about him. His players love him, His players love to play for him. His players go out of their way. I mean, you know, every everybody's a pro. You go out there and you play your best, but there are certain guys that add certain RPMs to your mentality, you know when you go out to play. And Danny is one of those guys that reaches inside and helps guys pull out extra juice when they hit the field. I mean, that's just who he is and what he's done throughout his career. And to think that, you know, in the last what over the last four weeks, Danny Special Forces have block two field goals. I say special forces, because that's what they are now. They are a special force. They are a force to be reckoned with. And they blocked two field goals, a block punt, a blocked extra point, a punt return for a TD field goal perfection twelve for twelve by the Boys through the first few weeks here, fifth best in the in net punting, third fewest return in yardage. My gosh, they're they're in allowing you know, returns. He is just amazing.

He has absolutely got that group on fire. And you're right, I mean, they are special forces. I mean they that's that that that's that's one of the elite units right now on the squad and they're going and they're going to deploy and you just better hold on to your butts because this is going to be a ride. And no better person to lead that group than Danny Smith, right, I mean he or Dan.

Danny Bouche Smithy.

I like that, Danny Smith.

I like that.

There we go. Yeah, I mean, and it just sounds Southern too, you know. You know, you got to have either an extra mental name or two last names, you know, in the South.

But he you know, we got to remember this for the next game. When we go to Washington, got this stuff out. This is important, I know.

But you know it's just a way that he inspires those guys, right, I mean they absolutely want their hair on fire.

And this is this is just backups.

Well, this is starters, right, key contributors in other areas that want to be on special teams, that want to help, that want to be a difference maker and want to help make that group, you know, as solid as possible, and that you know, it's a place where where East meets West offense and defense combined. Right, You're not just relegated to one side of the ball or the other when you're on specialties, man, You're you're you're a mix of everything right, right, and you get to play with a different segment of guys that you normally wouldn't get to play with, right because you know, I mean the offensive lineman and defensive lineman come together on either field goal or field goal block unit, you know, and you have all the skill guys that come together to handle putt and coverage units and then a mixture on the return team for kickoff and that you know, and then the covers unit you know that's primarily stick.

That to uh, you know, skill guys again.

But you get to mix up all those guys, right, And I think that's the cool thing.

You get to pick and.

Choose and allow guys that, hey, you want you want to make the squad, you can play this. But if you want to stay on the team and stay active on game day, you play one of these that absolutely make you stay on top of everything.

No question about it.

Look, you know the thing about it is you you look at everything from the punt return to the blocks.

Nobody blocks kicks anymore.

I mean basically, it just doesn't happen much, you know, the special teams. If you go back to you know, Bobbriola wrote a great article and if we pull that up on asked an answered for today about the special teams, Chuck Knowle was our special teams coach all the way through the eighties. They didn't hire I think it was until the nineties that they hired a special teams coach. And you know, and when you look at the special teams in eighty seven, we had six kicks blocked.

I mean think about that.

Your punt team, Yes, your punt team had six kicks blocked. It was just amazing and and Chuck didn't even wouldn't get a snapper. He just used centers to snap because he didn't want to take up a roster spot for their role. He got finally he got a long snapper on the roster had in nineteen ninety two. You know, it's just amazing, you know, the transition.

To the modern day special teams coaches.

Yeah, exactly.

I mean, you know, it's just like one of those things is a utility, right that you look for, you know, where you could get by until you can't get by and you realize you need a specialist, right.

Yeah.

And by the way, the eighty eight regular season had six blocks, six puns blocked.

Eighty eight.

Yeah, it was eighty eight. That was that miserable year.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Purge of eighty eight or no, that was purge of eighty four. Okay, eighty four, Okay, I you know, I have to remember these significant days of Steelers.

You lived during Super Bowl years.

I came after the last of them, you know, and then we had, you know, the Purge of eighty four, we had eighty eight, the four and eleven season, you know or whatever it was, five and eleven.

I mean, it was just uh yeah. See, so I wouldn't know.

Because I was You're too busy winning games.

That was two and six years old.

I'm feeling old, yes, I am.

Ah, yeah, yeah, so you know it happens every once in a while.

You know. I figured I put.

That out, just got out. I'm feeling young today on Halloween. Just just let it be.

But no, I think.

But you know what's funny is so another thing that kind of just reminded me of this when you were talking about, you know, the advent of getting special teams players, right, like a long snapper and then hiring a special teams coach, and how that wasn't that far long ago.

I remember.

One of one of our one of our athletic trainers back when I was in college.

His name was his name was Christopher Patrick.

He just he just went into like the Florida Sports Hall of Fame because he was the first athletic trainer hired and in college sports.

And it was back in it was back in the it was back in the sixties.

Yeah, and uh, he was hired at University of Florida by Ray Graves, who was the head coach back then, right as right before they started formulating like like gatorade and everything, and he remembers, like, you know, because that was his specialty, but people didn't really come to them.

It was more they were more like almost like physical.

Therapists back then, but not really like they were kind of like an offshoot of that. And you know Ray Graves that calls that, Hey, you know what I think. You know, we had a guy who's injured and wants you to look at him, and like, you know, it would be good to have somebody like this around all the time, and I just have to call you when things go bad, right, So that's how it happened. And you know he was and he was there, I mean for fifty years and he was actually an athletic trainer when I when I was at when I was at Florida.

So it just made me think of it because he just went in to the Hall of Fame.

I just saw his very good video and everything just last week, and that just jogged my memory thinking about like we would never think about an athletic trainer not being on staff, right, just like we would never think of a special teams coach not being on staf half. But it's a progression, right, there has to be a need or an issue that brings the necessity out. And boy are we glad that necessity came because we got a gym like the one the only Danny Blue, Shay Smith.

Max Starks, Florida Gators. You know I'm gonna get it in there. Absolutely, I'm gonna get it in there, clown. That's right, baby, Me Andanny Smith come from a different cloud.

Although you must know it. You just came out of a blanket. He can't. He had a towel. Yes, absolutely.

If you had Max, and if I had never met Max and Danny before and you just put me in a room with them and said, one of these guys is from Pittsburgh, the other is from the South, I'd be like, oh Max is from Pittsburgh.

Yeah, yeah, no question.

About it, you guys.

The first time I ever met Danny was during training camp in twenty eighteen. As you guys know, he's he's very friendly in those settings, like, oh yeah, some guys aren't that approachable, and that's okay. I don't knock him for it, but their guys are very friendly and welcoming, and he's one of those. And so it's like one night I'm chatting with him and Dale Lawley, I think, and I'm like.

Where are you from? Wait? What do you mean where I'm from? I'm from right here. Yeah. I was like, well, did you coach in the South at some point? Lsu Alabama? No, man, I've been I've been up here my whole life.

Man, Why do you so lived in the South Hills?

Yeah? Yeah, he definitely lived there Hills, South Hills.

Literally, the first time I ever talked to him, I said, where are you from?

He said, what do you mean? Where I'm from?

From?

Right here? It was unbelievable. You know.

I go back to the eighty eight regular season where we had six punts blocked.

All right, we didn't block six punts.

We had six punts blocked to make sure everybody's on the same.

Yes, the giver of it got so bad.

We were in Cleveland one day and this is like late November, maybe early December. It seemed like it was, well, it's always cloudy in Cleveland. I mean, just it is what it is. So we're there and after one series, we come off the field, right, Mike Webster is snapping poor Webby, you know, so so Webby Webby fires the ball back and touch and I immediately come off the sidelines first of all, after third down, and we grab a gatorade and we go back to stand on the sidelines because we we're on the verge of setting a record of you know, block kicks for a year, so we're just yellow. Yeah, So we go and Webby rockets won over the punter. The punter turns. I can't remember his name. He was barefoot punter, that's all I remember, you know. And he turns and runs. Yeah, he runs backwards like Willie May's at the polo ground.

You know.

He didn't jump for the ball. The ball is so far over his head. He just turns and starts sprinting the other way. So Webby comes off after the fiasco that ensues there, and he goes, we're the ball touch says up past the booie out there in lake here.

He's spending mad out there. Yeah, you know, it's not.

Don't don't worry. Don't worry. Shot put records.

We got a world record snap there.

Exactly.

Oh, poor web But anyhow, that was, that was It was horrible, you know, and then you have you know that finally you get a special teams coach, and then things changed around a little bit, but coaching all was our special teams coach all that time.

Oh my gosh, I mean, listen, listen, you know when the general can do what the general does, but at the same time like, ah, that's what That's why you need delegation, you need battalion leaders, that's why you need lieutenant commanders.

Well, you know the worst part was, and I hate to admit this attention, I burst out laughing. At first, We're on the sideline standard sucking down the gatorade, and Paul Good rockets over the head of our barefoot who turns and runs away like he's gonna catch the ball on a punt or something. We both like snorted and started laughing. Then, you know, you quickly you stop and look around.

Anybody's see you.

Yeah, exactly, because imagine if Chuck no, no, that would have been bad.

What think? Yeah?

Oh, so you think this is what you think you can do better than me? You think you can do better? Fine, you do it? Oh so bad. But Danny said, you're next. All right, all right, we're going to break here. We're going to break early. We got yes, we have the cool brys. Yeah, I'm looking at West. West is looking at me.

He's trying to mouth the words, you know, try to be like we have like I shouldn't like maybe I should know that it's the cool breeze coming up here on this Thursday.

So we'll be back with more. It's Halloween Thursday.

And I don't know if it's getting spooky over there, Max, it's anything, ye o, yeah, just.

My daughters just came by in there, in there in their Halloween a.

All right, so good deal. Well we are going to break. We'll be back with more after this.

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by for Sure, the official Insurance and Cybersecurity Parker of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by BET MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig Wilfley and Max Stark's.

Well, welcome back into the locker room.

And of course you know when you hear that music, it can be only one man, that's right, that is the one, the only insider himself, mister Jerry Doulac. And Jerry is brought to us by Artsi's on Carson Street in the South Side Pittsburgh's best place for food, beer, and sports. Do miss eighty cent wings Monday through Thursday, and of course, enjoy four dollan two ounce cores like drafts during all Penns games. How are we doing today, Jerry? Happy Halloween?

Well Max?

I am, well, Happy Halloween, you boys. I understand there's a lot of candy there in the studio. I'm worried about wolf attacking it and not having any left for anyone else. But otherwise always well, I am in sunny Florida right now for a few days, and all's good.

Wow, that's nice. Now, I take it you're gonna do some golfing, right, I mean that's what.

You do when you hit the Florida Wolf.

You know what, That's so funny you say that, because typically that's what I do. But I am visiting my daughter and I spend Yeah, I spend all my time with her while I'm here. So even though even though there is a golf course right across the street, I mean I could hit a seven iron to it and hit it, and yet I won't go play.

Shockingly enough, so what's the over under on me hitting the seven and across the street?

I was going to say, it depends how many times.

Exactly.

So Jerry, as we can go into this bye week, what do you think the Steelers are looking forward to coming out of it as part of their moving forward, knowing that they're facing a gauntlet which I don't know that we've ever seen quite this many divisional games through the end of a season like that. I can't remember any of but I mean certainly, well i'll make you concerned.

Yeah, well, and I'm sure we haven't because it's the first time they've played a division game this late in the season since at least the merger, so and I'm sure probably forever. But so, yeah, we haven't seen the likes of this, where six of the last nine games or division teams and then of course the three non division games are the upstart Commanders who pose a real threat, the Chiefs on Christmas and the Eagles. So you're talking about teams that are six and two, seven and zero and one of the Commanders five and two or six and two, so you know, that's twelve and seven, that's nineteen and four they're looking at right, you know, coming up, and so that is yeah, I mean, you know, in the non division games, so that's you know, that's no easy task. I think what they have done is I think they have positioned themselves well for the second half of the season, and not only positioned themselves well, I think going in with a kind of a decent idea of where they are. That finally, I think they have an offense to complement their defense, and you know, if the defense struggles, you know, based on what we've seen the last two games, back to back four hundred yard performances, we haven't seen that I think in eight years. And you know, a passing game that uh, you know with a quarterback that appears to be certainly legit, if not dangerous. I don't want to go that far. Uh And and and a running game with Najie Harris that three straight one hundred yard games. I mean, they have to be feeling very good about what they have seen in line with where they are right now.

Yeah, I mean it is pretty pretty cool to see quote unquote complimentary football, right Jerry.

I mean when you kind of look at how that happens.

You know, for me, one of the things, you know is we kind of like, you know, just start to look back on what are some of the potential areas for growth for this team, right, because you know, this team has not even come close to scratching surface on on on a rate complete game as a team.

Right.

And I think, you know, I always wonder, you know, where where can this go?

What? What is the what is the limit? So to speak, on this team.

And I was kind of looking at, you know, first half of the season and looking at the last game, like what are some of the areas because obviously the advent of adding Russ into this lineup and moving him in and started once he was able to and what it is kind of unlocked for the offense, right, like you said, like it's changed a complexion on how teams view us. We're not just a team that's going to slog it out and have to keep the game really slow and low scoring. But the fact that we can score now it has to get a little bit cleaner. Obviously some red zone miscues and other things. But what are some of the areas you're looking at and saying, you know what, I can't wait till this happens from this team.

Yeah, that's a good point, Max, And I think if they just you know, four red zone trips three inside ten last week, and came out with four field goals if they convert one of those, and of course we know they had two touchdowns taken off the board, one by penalty, the other by booth review, and you know, let's just say one of those field goals is a touchdown. Well, all of a sudden, Now that's three straight thirty point games, and they haven't done that in since. Got to go back to twenty and fifteen. The point being, you're talking about an offense that's producing points, and you're talking about a running game that is, you know, one hundred and forty seven yards, and don't forget you know, they've so they played eight games. Seven of the eight games they've brushed for over one hundred yards. Well, they haven't done that since you got to go all the way back to two thousand and four, the last time they did that. In their first eight games run for over one hundred and seven times. So that's showing you it isn't just oh they had a good running game one game or two. They've been fairly consistent and fellas the last two weeks, it's without Justin Fields patting those stats with the fifty sixty forty yards rushing each game. So that's that's showing that their running game is legit. And of course the big reason, of course is naugy. So I think I think, you know, you know, being a little bit more consistent in the red zone. But if they are, i mean, you know, offensively the offensive line, I'm with all those injuries, it's hard to say you'd like to see them get better. May I think health is going to be one thing, But if I look at one area, you know, defensively, I'm still not sold about them stopping to run, you know, if they are going to have to play a lot of nickel. And you know, I saw the other day what the Giants did. I mean, the Steelers did a pretty good job against Breese Hall for the most part, with the exception of about two plays. But I just think that run defense, to me, as the season wears on, might be the one area where they could be suspect, especially if they have to play or decide to play a lot of nickel. And of course, the big thing with Russ Wilson is you're getting a better feel for where their passing game could be. By that, I mean, where is that wide receiver room. Is it decent enough to get by or okay, sit back here during the buy and go. You know, well, you only have till Tuesday, the trade deadline. Okay, we need another guy, but they're in the mix, and if they think they're a good team that can challenge, then then you go make that move. You think, okay, we need another piece here. And if we're six and two and we're serious about this, do I think the Ravens are still the best team in the division?

Yes?

I thought at the beginning of the season the Steelers were a second place team in the division, and right now it looks like that's the case. They are more well balanced than the Bengals. They are more well balanced, of course than the Browns, but they do they think they can beat out the Ravens, and if so, then you go make that move before Tuesday. You don't sell the house, you know, you don't break the bank. But if you can make that move because you say, you know what, we're in this thing, then you go do it.

You know, it's interesting because I have wavered on that so much and I'm just right now I'm at the point. Unless it's one of those advantageous things like bringing Minka Fitzpatrick in I mean, that was ridiculously superb on the part of the Steelers to be able to bring him aboard. Somebody like that. To me, it's really not essential in the sense of we're talking about a run first offense, and I'm never adverse to improving the the roster or the depth. So yeah, if something comes wrong, but look at it. I mean, you got Pickens's got eight targets per game. You got friar Mouth at three, he should easily have double that. Jefferson is less than three targets, Austin three targets, Washington you know two. And I'm talking about Roman Wilson coming and contributing in any of these things. The point I'm making, I guess, is I see so much growth between the tight ends with friar Mouth and Washington dumping it off, the Jalen on third downs and so forth. I'm just I can't see reaching for a guy that that would be my concern and the other concern I got.

Just go ahead, Jerry, you let me hear you.

No, No, no, go ahead, Wolf, go finish your thought.

I'm sorry, Well, no, the only thing I was thinking was the only other thing that's concerning me is what you were talking about.

The tackling to me has.

Been a little bit, a little bit cheesy the last couple of weeks when you let a you know, a Briis Hall, I take a check down what almost sixty yards when you tie own Tracy. I admit I underestimated him. I didn't think he was that good. But I still don't think he's that that good. You know, I think he's a good back, but I one hundred and fifty yards worth is a little bit hefty I think for him.

Yeah, well if I agree, And that's what opened my eyes to it. You're talking about a guy who came into the game with two hundred and thirty yards and got he was running through them like Barry Sanders. And again, how much of that I didn't sit there and and and kind of tabulate how much that was, you know, what was against the nickel? How much of that was against the nickel, and how much wasn't. But yeah, that would be a concern. I think to your your first point, well, I don't think they're going to go out and break any bank to get anybody. They would only make a deal that makes sense for them.

You know that.

I think the most year they would give up as a third round pick, maybe a fourth round pick. I don't think you're going to see them, do you know. Minco was a little different situation in that they lost Ben. You know, they know they needed to improve their defense to hang in games, and you're getting all Pro safety and you had to give up a future first round there. You know, there's not going to be any of that. But I think if there was a deal that made sense, you know, for a wide receiver, I think they would possibly they would do that. But I think, you know what, all those things you mentioned as possibilities, those have all become a parent in the past two games with a quarterback who knows where he wants to go with the ball and does go there with the ball. And so that's what you find out with Russell Wilson. It's like, hey, we do have some you know, some viable people here besides George Pickens that we can make work. And that's kind of what I was talking about earlier. When you know, when I say with Russell Wilson in the game, they're able to decide, okay, we're okay at wide receiver. You know, sure we had a number two guy as someone a little bit more productive, that would be great. But I think you know, they they're thinking, okay, you know, with Russell Wilson, we kind of we can get by with what we have with this running game. And yeah, so that's why I don't think they're gonna go reaching for anybody. But I think I think you evaluate right now, and you only have what four or five more days to decide. But I I think, uh, I think that's what they'll do here in the next couple of days. And I think you'll see other teams do that. I think by Monday, you'll see teams making some deals after they play their games on Sunday and uh, you know, make whatever moves they feel necessary.

Yeah. No, it's gonna be interesting to see.

I mean, you know, you know, as it kind of look around and and just look at the market, and of course, who's who's not on the obvious market because obviously we heard, you know, guys like Max Crosby aren't moving, Miles Garrett of the world aren't moving, and you're just kind of trying to figure out, well, who's on that list. We've already seen you know, DeVante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, we've already seen all these kind of other pre moves. I mean, you know, as I look at it, I just and then Deontay of course go into the Ravens most recently. I just wonder, you know, what else is out there potentially. I mean, and that's where the that's where the personnel, you know, the Sheldon Whites of the world come into play, because that's their job, right, is to make sure that you have a ray list of potential guys. You've beat the phones up and knocked it down.

You know. I am encouraged about what we have coming back.

And you know, knowing that there's a guy like an Cole Holcomb when we talk about the poor tackling that is uh, that's you know, sooner than later to return. We haven't really gotten a date yet or a timeline, but you know, seeing him out there with the squad, I just wonder when he's going to be back avail because I think that that also gives a boost to your linebacking room, right, having a guy like a Cole Holcomb who's rangy and a good tackler when he comes back, and he can kind of bolster that that pair and the spare you know, and and and make him a pair and a pair that could potentially help.

Now, obviously it's been a year.

I think about, you know, Cam Sutton, how he rolls into this and his role to really help that secondary you know, I mean, is this somewhere you think you see somebody defensive lineman wise? I mean, you know, I'm just trying to figure out as far as where kind of the focus is on that.

Yeah, I don't. I don't see it. I really don't see any defensive help coming their way. Because one, with Cam Sutton coming back and what we've seen from Beingie Bishop the last two games, you know, that's that's just a positive. But getting Cam Sutton back is something that they have been anticipating and kind.

Of waiting for.

I don't know that Cole Holcom he's getting He's getting closer, But I don't think they have any reasonable explica expectation that he's going to be able to help him first of all, because I don't know how much he would even play or even if he would be active, because you have three guys who you know, Patrick Queen and Peyton Wilson. Peyton Wilson's all over the field and the landon Roberts's their thumper, and I just don't see Cole Holcomb helping at all, even if he is able to come back after not playing all this time, and you know, you know, seeing where he is after that horrific injury that he had, the only place that I would see them because there hasn't been a significant injury and the significant injuries have occurred on the offensive line, and they've had the young backups who've been able to step in, and so that's been you know, that's been a big positive. Obviously they'll get bed Zach Frazier back for the Commander's game, but you know, you loser Nick Herbig, you know, with a hamstring. You know, that's a Grade three injury, and so that's why he went on ir. He just wasn't getting healthier. So I think if they make any moves, fellas, because they're not gonna be any injury before the trade deadline. So to me, the only move they would make to me is that I think they would add who would help, who would help, and that would be a wide receiver, a trade for a wide receiver. And I don't know that that's going to happen, but to me, that's the only one that would make any amount of sense, and that would be the only one that I would expect in a trade.

Well, last question for me, Jery, excuse me. We've been talking about the superstar Danny Smith. We've now renamed him Danny Bobby Bouchet Smith, you know, the water boy.

Uh.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Sports Illustrated is gonna have him in the next swimsuit issue?

Is that? I just wonder that's what I heard.

No, Wolf, I think what's gonna happen. It's going to be a conflict because Time magazine has him as Man of the Year, so I think I think journalistically there there's a rule that you can't you can't be a cover boy for two different publications. So I think he's out.

Well all right, Jerry.

On that note, we're gonna let you go spend time with with with your daughter down there in sunny Florida. We appreciate the time as always each and every Thursday, and of course the sacrifice that you make to come into the locker room during a bye week.

We do not take that lightly. We do appreciate it. So go and joy and yeah and thank you for that.

And you know, the opportunity to go play Shingle Creek UH and on that to spend more time here is you know, it was just something I prefer to do.

Yeah, you know what.

You know, your sacrifice is duly noted, sir, and I'm sure Trevelle will be very kind to you next time.

And I know you're a big fan of Shingle Creek, Max, That's why I said that.

Of course, yes, absolutely absolutely steak that's a resort. They do have a steakhouse in there. Yes, they do great cigar lounge too. But yeah, now, awesome, Thanks Jerry for your time. We appreciate it, boy. And of course Jerry is brought to us by Archie's on the South Side, Pittsburgh's best place for food. That's right, eighty cent wings Monday through Thursday. And of course those ice cold four two ounce cores lights during all the Pens games. Is UH is a great place to be. And of course Jerry do like has brought to us by him, So when we come back, we'll be back with more here inside the Locker Room on Steel's Audio Network.

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by acro Shure. The official insurance and Cybersecurity Partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig Wolfley and Max Starks.

Yes.

Indeed, before we hit the top of the hour, we got to get our word of the day in Yes, and the word of the day today is serio comic. Yes, serial comic, combining the serious with the comic, serious in intention, but jocular in manner of vice versa. For instance, a screenwriter tries to balance humor and deep topics in a serial comic format. I found it to be true to that in other areas too, like Germaine illuminor saying TJ. Watt didn't do nothing as a serial comic statement, when you, you know, take into account that TJ was just named AFC Defensive Player of the week.

I find that very comical. You know, oh, he didn't do nothing.

Well, he just got named the AFC Defensive Player of the week. Where you bet if you're not keeping up on current events there, buddy, what's going on?

He said this for the NFC. He's like, he's like, hey, he did nothing for NFC. Honors. Even though he's in the AFC, he was still being he was still being serial comic about that. Oh man, isn't that amazing?

How you know you could just turn a blind eye to a guy whipping your butt, but yet you asked to be on that island and you found out it was better than the SNL group Lonely Island.

Yeah, yeah, it's terrible.

Oh god, that is hilarious, especially after all the jobs. It's like, dude, it's like you actually asked for the bull and got the horns.

Oh you did? Seriously like comical? Well he did that.

It's like it's like that song you know, Jim Croche. You don't tug on Superman's cape. You know, you don't spit in the wind, and you don't take the mask off the lone Ranger. Well I tell you what, uh TJ. Watt did? What TJ Watt does? Man, Let's put out a defensive Player of the Week performance, and how you can sit there after it and go he didn't do nothing.

What land are you living in?

Yeah?

Exactly, I mean he as you said, uh Germaine delusion or yes, is definitely the land that he's dead.

There you go it's the lamb of confusion or the land of delusion, however you want to look at it.

TJ scrambled his eggs up top so bad that he that he thought he didn't do anything.

Oh that's how bad. No, that's how bad. I mean it was.

It was an allusion to the illuminor you know, we got we got to some of Matt's stats, you know, for the the first eight weeks. But you know I found a stat that that it whoops anything, Matt Scott.

Okay, let me tell you.

I'm telling him you said, please do because he'll agree with me when he hears this. Did you realize NFL teams consume at least eighty thousand incrustables a season? Eighty thousand, I tell you, not sixty, not forty eighty thousand uncrustables per team?

Are we talking league total? League total? League total?

The Broncos lead the way with an estimated seven hundred done crustables consumed a week.

Now, tell me that's serious stuff, huh.

I mean, listen, smuck smuckers. Smuckers is delighting in that.

You know, if you think about it too, like, say, you got you know, you got the roster push the coaching staff, the other people at the facility. If you're going through about one hundred uncrustables a day, seven hundred a week, right, that makes sense.

That's about every person having one per day. I got a feel one hundred people having one per.

Day that in half he got fifty people, or maybe there might be a few having ten or so.

Thank god, Wolf is not allowed to have access.

Excuse me, excuse me, like you and I didn't go back from dinner up at training.

Camp, training camp.

You the only thing the only thing that there's more of a training camp than on crustables is water.

That's it. That's the only thing that there's more of is water. Next we can go out there everywhere.

We got uncrustables in a bag stuffed in our pockets with gatorade.

Going back bag. Hey, what are you talking about?

I just had an a crustable Tuesday morning, right exactly exactly, and I have one.

Brought up to the booths Monday night.

After the man is throwing rocks at.

Excuse me, I was throwing an allep so that we could lead the further commentary. Okay, okay, sir, I was I was. I was leading the witness. I was leading the witness and it worked.

You know, crustables are just like the best thing going, you know, when you when you're hungry and you got to get something.

I mean, forget the candy bar like that. The uncrustables just rock.

I mean, it's it's it's the convertible snack, you know what I'm saying, Like it's it's ready made and it's self contained. All you have to do you peel the wrapper and you've got joy, you know what I'm saying, Like that's just all it is. Well, I mean, when else can you have? You know, two pieces of bread crust cut off right, it's pressed down to hold the contents inside. They don't leak, like like if we were to make a homemade version of one right, you know it would if you jellify one side over the other.

It's perfectly symmetrical in the center surrounded by a nice little wall of peanut bushy getting protein r little protein, healthy fats there, and then it just it's it's sweet, it's it's salty, it's all the things you want it to be, and it's right there and just and just a bite sized morsel for us to enjoy.

You can enjoy it while you're driving, you know.

I mean to make a mess driving talking on the air. Yes, we've done I mean we we we've done it. All it works. It could be a backpack snack.

There you go, you know, over the ladies out there.

A purse snack is a purse snack, you know. It help children are happy, adults are happy. I mean, it is just it's a wonderful. It's a wonderfuld it is. You know, I like to hug them, you know, you just you just it's just pure joy, you know, just just a little just a little nuzzle on the cheek before you bite it, you know.

Or that's either because you like missed biting it.

We're looking on and trying to constantly bit, so it turns into an accidental nuzzle, but still a nuzzle.

Nonetheless.

Well we're gonna nuzzle our way out of here, because coming up next is the Power Hour with Max Starks. And if you've got an uncrustable nearby, make sure you eat it all right, give it a little hug, eat it.

We'll be back after this f
