Hr2: Giants Early Scouting Report

Published Oct 24, 2024, 4:00 PM
The Locker Room begins to look ahead to Monday night’s clash with the Giants. Where do they present a challenge, and where do they struggle?

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, p n C, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig Wolfley and Max Stark's.

All right, the Power Hour is engaged. M all right, that's right.

Optimist is still barreling his way towards New York and having having a time for Monday night football. Guys. I cannot wait for this. And you know, Wolf you were definitely giving me uh some some some some good intel man. You know, uh what.

What what did? What did?

What did the Giants get held to in that game against the Eagles.

Well, the amazing thing to me is, I mean you got to remember that the Eagles were just creamed the Giants, you know what I mean, socked them and everything else. But they held Philadelphia to one of thirteen on third downs.

I got to recheck that. But it's Matt you know, William said he didn't make mistakes like that. But again, zukes know you think about that one of thirteen. That's ridiculous, pretty pretty impressive. Pretty impressive there. Uh you know when you think about that, I mean, that's gonna be a challenge, right, I mean, that's no. No, you said the Giants were held to one of thirteen.

No, I was.

I was thinking that it was the other way around.

But the Eagles were one of thirteen.

Wow. Yeah, fact checker, when I went around.

Three for three on fourth downs but one of thirteen on the third downs is correct?

Yeah, that's crazy.

Wow.

Okay, that's gonna be a challenge, man. I mean, you know when you deal with it with the squad like that, that's that that depth defensively, you wonder if that's a that's a Dexter Lawrence effect to it, right if he if? If he if he's that type of guy.

Well, I said, I'm sorry, but I saw, Yeah, I saw one fourth down they ran at him, right on him, and I thought, why would you run right at this this monster, you know, in the middle. But they did. They they they squeezed it out. It wasn't by much and they didn't need much. It was a fourth down, you know, but they got it. But I was surprised. They just quarterback sneaked it and went after him. But regardless, that is one of the guys. And you know, we'll talk about it more as we get closer here, but Dexter Lawrence is a guy that you got to contend with offensively for the Steelers because that guy in the middle of the defense a nose tackle if you will.

It's just he's having a monster year. Yeah, no, he he is.

I completely agree, and I think, you know, as we kind of you know, to parse through this and get ready for game day, I think you have to pay attention to that type of number that you as a team, you know, have to be ready. You know on third downs that New York is gonna bring something right, They're they're they're gonna bring the blitz. They're gonna affect you in a way, and you've got to avoid those third and long situations against them because they do have the dogs to hunt at that point. You know what I'm saying. In a game, they know, they know how to get after you. And I think that's one of the things where I'm like, Okay, well, we gotta gonna kind of get mind our p's and q's is. You know, don't let the record fool you, right, this is still a professional NFL team that we're dealing that we're dealing with, and there's been a lot of a lot of resources allocated to that defensive side. Now offensive has not paid the same dividends as the defense, But you know, I think that's something that as we look at it, and you know, we'll kind of we'll kind of we'll kind of break into this in.

A little bit.

But you know what, why not, We'll just we'll just break through the glass door right now. Boom boom done. There it is. But you know, you kind of look at what they have defensively, right you have a dexter Lawrence, You've got big DJ Davidson, you got Aziz Ojalari on one side, and then you've got uh rakeem.

Raquim. Man.

There we go. See look there we go. I see you're inner. Alvaro there, Yeah.

I'm getting it. I'm hanging out with those guys as much as possible on the weekends. Man.

Yeah, yeah, but no, but I mean, you know, you got you have those type of guys and then you know you throw, you're throwing Brian Burns who they traded for from Carolina and Brian Burns, we knew what he did down in Carolina.

I mean he was Zack machine, so I.

Mean defensively on that front line, I could see how the Eagles could go one to thirteen. Oh yeah, and because they got firepower they do.

That's exactly the point. I mean, they're averaging four point four sacks a game. I mean, get zookes man, that's that's that's a lot of cheddar.

Yeah yeah, that's that's that's that's stacking up the sandwich real quick. You don't want to be on the receiving end of that. I think it's gonna be a good challenge for this offensive line, right. I think they got some they got some confidence. And as as everything stands now, I'm looking for I'm knocking on wood right now. Wolf, just want to let you know that will actually see the same lineup for a second week in a row.

Again.

I didn't hear the wood. Where's the wood?

Come on?

I mean it was wood flooring, so it doesn't Okay, can you let's see can.

You hear that?

Yeah you're not there? We go yeah yeah, well yeah, it's close to my noggin, but man, and the floor hurts a lot worse to mynog at least my nons hollow. There's not much up there there it is, but uh but yeah, no, I mean it's gonna be a good challenge for them. And I think, you know, thank goodness, you know you have that game, you have the Jets game to build on and work off of where you saw from the first half you give up one sack, a couple of quarterback hits and then to just a couple of quarterback hits and no sacks. And I think, you know, the Jets, the Jets defense is a pretty good defense. So you know this is going to now be a step up in that competition because now you have a little bit more sacuration here.

You have guys right that.

Kind of want to mirror what are you know, what our defense does with a three to four alignment and the fact they bring that five man kind of front to the rush game, and you got to be on your p's and q especially, like I said, you know, Brian Burns on one side, as E's o'clari on the other, and it's going to be a good challenge for him. And then and then you got Okreke in the middle there, who they brought over from Indianapolis. So I mean their linebackers are good the defense, it's just the offense is where the question lies. And you know, they just can't get anything going. So I mean it's gonna be a good challenge for our Steelers.

Offense, no question about it. You know, you talk about the Giants not doing well offensively. They've scored ten total points over the past two weeks. They averaged two point two yards per play last week and didn't have a single play over thirteen yards. You think about you know, Russ and Pickens. I mean, you got forty four. You had a twenty nine yard PI that he drew on I think it was Sauce Gardner. Then you had a thirty seven yard or that he had. I think Calvin Austin didn't Kelvin Austin have a big play?

Yeah, he did thirty four yard four yards?

I mean, you know, and you think nothing over thirteen yards yet, zooks man, I mean that that offense is not doing well. And the biggest and here's the hard part, you can't let that affect you defensively. I mean you can't sit there and go, oh, this is good. You can't let those RPMs in your gord start to go on idle. You know, you can't let them diminish, you can't let those RPMs drop. You got it in your mind. You've got to conjure up like how you're playing well, Dexter Lawrence. That's easy for Ryan McCollum because Dexter Lawrence is a fearsome guy there.

Right.

You got eighteen sacks, just yeah, just eighteen sacks.

Among the four starters for the defense for the Giants up front, So you know, you got a lot of work there. But in other aspects our defense looking at their offense and the ineptitude. I mean, Daniel Jones didn't throw but for what ninety nine yards?

Last week?

They only had, like I said, one of thirteen on third downs. So wait a minute, I got that backwards.

It was three.

Yeah, the Giants got three. Yeah, but Philadelphia only had one of thirty. I don't still know what I still can't come in that. But anyhow, well, well that also.

Means that they weren't getting the third down often, and when they were getting the third death was more successful. Yeah, yeah, you're right. A. J. Brown did catch a bomb on it. Yeah, yeah, well you.

Got you got the thirteen times, I mean thirteen opportunities and just I don't know, it's crazy, but the point being is the giants are. You can look at this game and think, okay, make sure everybody's on point, everybody's you know, it's kind of together, and you got to gotta got to realize that these guys could be dangerous because when you got nothing to lose, that's a dangerous group of guys.

Yeah.

And I mean and even though you know, don't lock in on the personnel, right, lock in on a bigger goal. This is the obstacle preventing us from being six and two right now, mm hmm. We're five and two and we want to be six and two.

Right.

That's kind of how your focus has to be, Like it can be that, it could be that minute. Don't don't worry about you know, Mike Toma calls them nameless gray faces, right, you know, it's it's what do they represent? And they represent a sixth victory in eight games? That is the goal. That is the you know, because if you, like you said, if you lock in on names, I mean, stop me, stop me when when you feel nervous. Okay, Wolf, I'm going to read through the starting lineup on offense, Daniel Jones at quarterback, Tyrone Tracy Junior, a fifth round pick from this year, at running back, Theo Johnson, a rookie from the fourth round at tight end, Jermaine Illuminor right tackle, Greg Van Hulton right guard, John Michael schmidtz Junior center John Iris. John Michael Schmidt said he'd have to be a Smithy No, John Runyon left guard, Joshua is Zudu at left tackle. That's more like, yeah, exactly, wan Dale Robinson at wide receiver, Darius Slayton at wide receiver, and Malik Neighbors.

I think that's where I.

Pause. Yeah exactly that that that's it, And I'm like I read through that and I'm like, yeah, if I was reading names, I can tell you it's a defense. I would not be I would not be bothered. But like you said, what do they represent? What threat do they pose? They threaten our sixth victory of the year.

That's what that.

That's all it is. So I don't worry about names anymore when I think about what the record could be. See.

The interesting thing was Chuck Noll, when he was faced with a situation like this, he would start to individualize the matchups all right, Ryan McCullum, Dexter Lawrence, you know, you get that, and of course that's a big one anyhow regardless, But that's what Chuck would do because he'd start to highlight you, and you didn't want to be sitting in a room a week from then and having not performed well in a matchup that was highlighted by your head coach, you know what I mean. So, yeah, that's a little that's a step beyond the names, because now he's individualizing, putting the pressure on you to perform at a high level because your matchup with somebody else was, let's say, something that he considered in his favor in the you know you're using having me, for instance, me against the guy.

They'd say, hopefully you know this is up to you. You gotta d d you know, And he just put that pressure on you.

But that's how he would handle something like this, when you're faced with a two and five team and a five and two something like this where one team is played in very poorly and one teams playing very well.

Yeah no, and I agree, So I mean, if we want to do that game, all right, Dan Moore, you got Brian Burns, Yeah, there go right, I mean, that's what we're talking about.

And then and then, uh, bro, Joe, guess what you got? You got disease.

You already highlighted. Ryan McCollum, you got you got, you got the big you got the big dog. Dexter Lawrence the second, That's right, he's the second. So I mean there was one before him. You know, Isaac ci Amalu, you're gonna get ra. And then of course Mason McCormick, you got, you got, you gotta, you gotta go talk to the DJ d J Davidson that is in that moment, so you know that's where the trench, the trench lineup is offensive and of course defensively.

Right, Uh yeah, what what boy? I'm now.

Kean Yeah, yeah, because I wanted to say Keenan, and I'm like, why am I saying keen you? Keanu Benton. You've got John Michael Schmid's the junior n Michael Smith. Yes, yeah.

And then you know, how come I can't do an Irish thing like you do. You're from Orchard Parking, Okay, okay, I have enough problems with English.

Yeah. You you You've got such a uniqueness. You and you and old Ronnie. You know you you just be you, you be you.

Yeah, you know, Cam, You'll get Joshua.

You do.

Well, you you you do him? Okay, you you get that guy, Joshua whatever it is. You know. I'm sorry, no, I'm sorry.

He has run you in. You know, Alex Heismith will get Joshua whatever his last name is. Flip, They'll flip back and forth. Yeah, well well no, Alex, Alex always get a zoo doo because he's at left tackle. Yes, but I'm talking about the interior guy. But but yeah, he'll get Runying or Van Rotten and uh it's r O T And I mean Johnny Rotten. Yeah, yeah, but but he's Van Rotten, you know. So so yeah, you'll get him. And then of course t J will get Illumin or THEO, THEO Johnson, Chris Man Hurts, Daniel Bellinger, Evan Neil might even jump out there in a heavy set. And then of course he'll get Tyrone, Tracy Junior, Singley, Eric. That's all the guys that t J will get.

All right, right, But I was talking about the other side of the line, you know, the Giants defensive line.

Well, yeah, you know, I was just giving both tales of the tape.

That's I got confused.

I don't know. I'm sorry a little WHI made a right hand turn there on me. I know I did make a right hand turn. I went offensive defensive and then defensive offensive?

How much he I keep up with you?

Man? I need some more coffee. Well, don't worry. I believe the studio has enough.

Did you did you? Did you bring your your special k cups with you?

Oh? I got okay, yeah, man, I got I got some high intensity coffee. Man some Yeah, look at that rolling rolling Your r's there because of because of Nun, we we've gotten down this rabbit hole.

But uh but no, you know, I do want to good wolf, because.

I know we are. You know we're parsing through this. I do want to break down the matchups even further, you know. But after the break though, if that's fine with you, I don't want to break It's fine, we can. I don't want to, Yeah, I don't. I don't want to.

I don't want to overdo it.

I want to try because you know, we've been doing such a great job with our clock, which we never do.

I don't want to. I don't want to ruin our record thus far.

And I feel like it's only apropos that we that we that we hold a tight clock in the power hour.

Well, let me is Optimus honked at me. There you go. Well, let me just leave you with what you know with Chuck.

You know when Chuck would touch and I run across the fields at Saint Vincent and he said, I want you to guys to know that you two are last.

And we just saw stripes and I said, I'm pacing myself, Sergeant. He looked at me like I had three heads and then he ran off. So we're pacing ourselves, sergeant. That's what we're doing right now.

As Sergeant Hulker said, that, said Bill Murray, and so continue, my friend.

Yes. So with that, there you go.

One of the greatest movies ever.

Yeah.

And with that, I I can't do it any better. So we're gonna end on that note as we take a break here, and we'll be back with more inside the Locker Room, the Wolfly segment when we come back here on the Steelers Audio Network.

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by Akroshure, the official insurance and cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by BET, MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig Wolfley and Max Stark's.

Fake Jones screen. Barkley right side.

Barkley has plenty of room, crosses the thirty, the forty, the forty five yard line, shrugs off one tackler, leaps over another on a play by Saquon Barkley as he crosses midfield and gets into Steelers territory down to the forty four yard line.

Of course that's from the archives and that's still Rob King making the call there. But again, Saquon Barkley, think about it. Now he goes from being a Giant to being an Eagle. And last week, in a twenty eight to three victory the Eagles over the Giants, Sekawan Barkley rumbled for one hundred and seventy six yards. You know that's pretty impressive. I mean they're sitting there going this is a good defense. This is a defense that gets after the passer. This is a defense that you know, they got some real run stuffers up front. They got people that can mangulate and get after you there, and I'm just wondering, you know, you look at it and going wow, you know, one hundred and seventy six yards, you know.

Yeah, three or three of those right though? Being a I'm sorry, I think we were gonna.

Get a breaking info. We're crying out, Wesley.

Well, now hold on, this isn't necessarily breaking news.

This happened on Sunday, I know, but I thought we could break it light.

Okay, Okay, there we go.

What's that?

Still?

A break?

Still?

A break of info? All right, there we go?

Y Sakuon Barkley did have a west Yuler at the Steelers Audio Network Breaking News desk, but did have one hundred and seventy six yards on Sunday boom, But three plays really kind of made the difference there. He had a fifty five yard run, a forty one yard run, and a thirty eight yard run, So a large chunk of that number coming on just three plays.

I think there's a lot of morals, a lot.

Of lessons to that story, fellas, but maybe that you got to be patient against this defense is one of them.

Wes Uler at the sa N Breaking News desk.

Exactly Steelers Audio Network. See I picked up on that. It's about time you got that thing going for crying out loud.

We had to navigated over from Steelers Radio Network to the Steelers Audio Network.

It took some time. Optimist Blue right past us wouldn't give us a ride.

We accidentally shot a building with our cannon shot this morning.

Had all kinds of problems going on here.

Talk about broadside of the barn right there.

Yeah, no doubt about it. But he does make a real valid point. And one of those things is you got to stay with it. But you can crack this Giants defense for big runs. Now again, think about what Nag he's been doing of late. We're seeing Naji break off some big runs and do some stuff that you know, every everybody you know would bag on Nagy at times.

You know, oh he's you know, just grind. He's a grinder. He's a grinder. Well, you saw what happens.

When you get the periphery, people start blocking down the field, you get past the line of scrimmage, you get past the second level, and sudden of a gun, that guy is airmailing himself into the end zone from the five yard line. You know, he's got that ability. He can make guys miss, he can run guys over. I think this is again a great opportunity to be able to demonstrate just how far this running game has come and what it is capable of doing against the Giants come Monday night.

What say you, Max, Yeah, No, I think this is an opportunity. And then also you saw really the selflessness right of of of a Saquon in that moment as well, to to to not want to go and break the record against his former team at that moment, And I think that just kind of lets you know that you know, even though things are things that weren't going as well as they were for the Giants, that there was still some capassion there by his part because the game.

Was already in tow.

So I think, you know, when you think about the rushing opportunities that that are going to come for the Steelers, you can break the dam. You can break the dam on this team, and you cannot even feel bad about it, because listen, at the end of the day, we are you know, you're there to win the game at the end of the day, and however you secure that victory is how you secure it. But I think rushing is going to be key for our squad because because they're they're they're wounded in that and I think it's moving it laterally to get a guy like like Dexter Lawrence tired so that you have a better opportunity against him, right, Put him on the ground, make him get you know, make him do some push ups. No, fat guy likes push ups, you know what I'm it's horrible. I hate push ups.

It's like that. You mean there's work there. Oh yeah.

But you know, aside from that, because there's there's another thing I want to talk about here, because we you know, we have not given I don't think we've given Beanie Bishop his due as far as I and all of a sudden I saw West, like look up West Virginia, West Virginia, Morgan.

You know, Beanie bitchop Beanie Bishop.

There you go.

So this is this is a remarkable story when you think about it, you know, I mean, he was literally he was just one yard short of being the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, you know, I mean, you think about it. This guy here came back from that Dallas game where he got kind of chewed up a little bit, you know, it was targeted eight times and allowed six receptions for ninety yards, but he's rebounded.

Versus the Raiders, he limited.

Wide receivers to three receptions fourteen yards and the Jets four receptions thirty five yards and two interceptions. But what I found so interesting he watches film with Mike coach Mike right every Friday and listens to the suggestions of Mike. Of course Mike being his first job in the pros was as a secondary coach, if I'm not mistaken, and I think, wow, what a great learning opportunity for Beingie Bishop to sit there with Mike, watch film and then get pointers right there, one on one that says something there.

And of course to get to get that knowledge from a former wide receiver. You know, it's when you it's funny when you think about like those crossover skill sets right.

Right, that that that that some guys haven't.

For Mike Tomlin, right, he was he was a He was a wide receiver that turned to a dB coach that became a defensive coordinator. But he has this still the offensive mindset. And I think that's one of those cool things when you look back on it, you say, man, this is this is truly an opportunity for a guy like Mike t to to go ahead and give some further knowledge to a guy where he has that intimate knowledge from both perspectives about about how that position is ran. And you know, and you'd like to say, hey, this kind of paid off right.

Exactly, you know, I mean, hey, you know, and this was a great article that Joe Rutterer wrote. I really like reading a lot a lot of work that Joe does. And you know, we found out basically we found our Mike Hilton, I think, you know, and you think about it, to watch film with Mike and even though you got Cam Sutton coming back after the Giants, what a great rebounder, What a great boomerang job by Beanie to come back after that Dallas loss. You know, and I again I think about this, and I think, all right, you know, this young man he's got something going here.

This could be our Mike Hilton back, you know what I mean.

Mike Hilton was just such a he was so he was so good at that nickel slot that that you know, for for being to be able to come in and start making you forget about Mike Hilton.

This is great.

It's kind of It's kind of like finding out how the sausage is made behind the scenes, where you got the head coach sitting with the young buck, a rookie, you know, an undrafted rookie making starts.

I just I find it fascinating.

Yeah, no, I mean, And and here's the other thing. We're getting this before we even get a Cam Sutton back right right, you know, from Nickel production. And I think that's what I'm really excited about because he has been, you know, he's been the point of contention and the point of a lot of attention for these other squads.

And you know, he he he.

I think he backs some guys off, right, He backed some dudes off. And now you're going right before the bye and then you'll get a Cam Sutton back, and you know, you're starting to get those reinforcements of defensive backs that can also help because we're going to see some a better caliber of wide receiver, you know, coming up these next couple of weeks, so you're gonna need it all hands on deck. And the fact that Beanie's now coming online and now he's added his interception to the turnover pie of the defensive back position. You know, because everybody's everybody's in on it now. I think I think it is a really good sign, especially for a young guy, like you said, undrafted free agent, just a wealth of dollars because he came in as as as a guy who was one of the most targeted guys in college that had the highest pass defense rating, you know, coming out of college a year ago, and now that's translating into the pro level. Yeah, you know, here's the thing, this is a bummer. Think about it. You got two picked Aaron Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer twice for your first interceptions of your career, your one yard short of running one back for a touchdown. All right, So Cody Barton half a yard, half a yard, thank you.

Cody Barton, who's a linebacker from Denver, had eight tackles, one pass broken up, one force fumble, and a fifty two yard fumble return for a TD. I think Beanie deserved it more.

Now.

I mean, if he if he'd scored, I'm sure he would have gotten the FC Defensive Player of the Week. But I mean, for crying out loud, two picks off of Aaron Rodgers, that's bigger than a fumble return.

Yeah, no, absolutely, I mean it's one of those that can we vote on that?

Everybody put Yeah, we're voting on you know, secret ballot.

All right, all right, let's see we vote vote Beanie okay, all right, we got three? All right, all right, vote Cody Bartner. No, nobody's voting for Cody. Okay, thank you, mate.

I mean you knew he wasn't you knew he wasn't voting him?

Well? Yeah, I mean, of course, mister West Virginia.

Over here, I am nothing if not compromised.

Exactly what.

Super mountaineer here in.

Seat of objective. I'm subjective. I'm compromised. I'm bought and paid for.

He's in other.

Words, he's a couch burner through and through, well not anymore.

Yes, yes, stink, but I used to be. I'd like to be again. Why can't we burn couches even more?

Dad?

Make Morgantown couches scared again?

Furniture marts are living are living in comfortability right now because of our lack of play.

You try and take your couch to the Salvation Army in Morgantown and they're like, sorry, we got we got warehouses full because the mountaineers never win games anymore.

So we're we're no longer going to have any couch bonfires because the team can't produce the victory. That's bonfire worthy enough. We've got an overflow.

Save your prayers for basketball season.

Heard the field hockey teams doing really well this year. The women's.

Both softball and baseball are gonna kill it. I tell you, just wait till same time. We'll see who's laughing.

That's right, who's laughing? Right?

Oh? We got where are skull Our skulls are doing great right now, guys, oh man, just swimming up and down the river. Absolutely think about this. So now think about this.

After the Giants game, you get Cam Sutton back, and that's gonna be interesting to see. What Because Cam Sutton is a multi use defensive back. I mean, he's a guy that can play safety, nickel, outside corner, you know what I mean?

Those things?

Yeah, yeah, that's that's a multiple city of roles that you're capable of, you know, doing, And the fact that it's given, you know, Beanie, is such an opportunity to work into this job and even to rebound after a subpar performance, you know, Like I said, I know Aaron Rodgers had to be fixated on getting Beanie as we progressed. You know, you know that you could feel it and then to see Beanie rise up and spank him twice with that. And by the way, according to Pat McAfee, he's good. Aaron Rodgers is going to sign those footballs. But of course, like Jerry said, Jerry do like our buddy there. He said, you know, I'll wait until it's actually done before I give him props on it.

Yeah, exactly before we consider him a good guy. Yeah, but but but I also think, you know, kind of when and I think that you know that that's the beauty of Pat, right, Pat? Is that WVU dude?

Right right?

He intervened, Yeah, he intervened to make that because I'm sure if you left it to the cow bear, uh, you know, Aaron Rodgers, he wouldn't have done it. But which is hilarious that they are now in the A c. C. Anyways, that was a squirrel but but you know, kind of but but but I love.

That hold on, hold on, hold on, you mean California isn't on the Atlantic coast.

Hold the phone exactly, Virginia guys, Yeah, exactly, where's that California, California.

Yeah, yeah, mining for gold. There's golden in their hills. Now now we got shine in our hills. Anyways, yeah, god, we we just always just jumped. I just jumped the shart.

No, here we go.

I got it, I got it, I got it, I got I got it. Camp Sutton, that's who we were talking about. Camp Sutton. Yes, I think with also because remember Dante's nursing an injury that he claims is no issue, but he did not return.

To in the game.

But I'm going out on an issue, but I'm not going back in.

It's not an issue. Though.

I think getting Cam Sutton in there now gives you a little bit more versatility there, right, because listen, nothing against James Fier. James Pierre came in and he played admirably, but we know what the limitation is of James Fierre. I think you don't have that. I think you have a little bit more comfortability with rotating through your defensive backs with Cam Sutton in that lineup. And then so you're saying, if Dante, you know, is not feeling up to it, boom, you could pop in and Camp Sutton on the outside. Okay, being he's getting picked on a little bit.

Boom.

You can insert Cam Sutton in the nickel, right. He gives you that versatility and that reinforcement to bolster that that group because you know, knock on another wood. I'm not doing the floor again because my hand hurts still. But we haven't seen those injuries to the defensive back group, and that group's been relatively intact and pretty much healthy for the most part outside of demonte k Z right, and that's when you bring into Terrell Edmonds. So I think having that and bolstering that's gonna be good because, like I said, we're getting a different class of receiver once we get into the second half of the season, right, all the division games that we have, and the Bengals still have jmar Chasen t Higgins. They're not going anywhere right, right, And then once you have with Baltimore, you know, whether it's for Sead Bateman's A Flowers or whatever, those guys are still in that roster. So you need to be prepared for those guys in Cleveland's Cleveland, but we'll see what they have to offer with Jameis Winston anyways. But then we have the Eagles, right, the Eagles, DeVante Smith, AJ Brown, Kansas City now got DeAndre Hopkins. So now you got to worry about Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins, you know. And so we're seeing all that. That's what's gonna be coming up. And then of course the Washington Commanders, right, Terry McLaurin and company. So we're getting better wide receiver pedigree and depth. So it's going to be awesome to have that depth now for our defensive backs to combat that.

No question about it. I'm looking forward to this.

I got a feeling, I gotta feeling something good's gonna happen Monday night.

But you know what, We're gonna save that because we're coming up with the final Power well, the final segment in the Power Hour, as Max Starks takes us home, coming up next right here in the Locker Room.

This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and brought to you by acro Shure, the official insurance and Cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by bet MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI, and by FedEx. Where now meets next. Now here's Craig Wolfley and Max Stark's.

All right, it's the bell laugh. I guess just forgot the segment.

It was pondering in the postulations of Craig wolf Ley.

I was like, oh yeah, this, No, this is my segment.

I thought he was just so excited for the bell left. He had to build the.

Drama, building the tension or something, you know.

And there's how the sausage just made ladies and.

We just ground, Yeah, we talk about elephants and wooly mammos in the brain we are going, yeah, so.

Full disclosure, because this is how we got it. We got to explain what went on behind the scenes. There's a thing I got a historical thing in my email and somebody posed a question, was there wooly mammoths in ancient Egypt? And Max said, no, that's what they call elephants, because wooly mammos I can't imagine doing well in a desert, you.

Know what I mean, Yeah, they're too wooly to a desert.

You know, can you go when you're in the desert? Sure?

Yeah, And so I just I just simply pointed out that, you know, those are called elephants because yeah, they wouldn't have any hair. They wouldn't have said wooly to it, they'd just be mammoths or you know, elephants.

Yeah, I mean, what's the wooly mammoth without hair? It's an elephant that Yeah, I was just like, it's.

You know, wooly mammoth is an elephant that hasn't gotten a haircut yet. There you go.

We solve that. Solve that already, how about that? Yeah? I feel I feel good about this.

I feel like we're myth busting, you know, even more so than than we have been and the you know, in this entirety of its show.

I mean, we myth busted. What was it?

We myth busted about nails and boards and tear.

Yeah, and we we we we we we have been.

Fully immersed in all that is uh and all that is this this glory.

So don't tell don't tell Ronnie about you know what I pulled the when I tried to pull the nail out with my teeth.

That I won't say anything. But I'm not sure our listeners will agree with that. But I'm not going to say it because I'm not going to see him next week.

So we're good.

Exactly exactly, Oh my gosh. But moving along here, yeah, moving along. You know, I kind of want to, you know, pose some overarching questions.

Oh, an overarching question? All right, you mean something bigger than what's you know, a wooly mammoth doing in ancient Egypt?

Yeah, exactly, you know, to wooly or not to Willy? That is the question, you know, is is it woollly? If if he's trying to get a tan you know what I'm saying. I mean, these are the questions you have to ask yourself.

But I wanted to go with.

Okay, now I'm totally distracted. Okay, yeah, I'm totally distracted because now I'm thinking about the Pyramids of Giza. Right, So you got the Pyramids of Giza. You're out there in Egypt.

Who makes it? Uh? A pyramid out there in the middle of desert?

You know?

I mean technically it wasn't desert back in ancient times, right, I mean it was, it was, wasn't it you know, it was, but it was, But it was, But it wasn't far like the Nile went in a different direction back then, So it wasn't as far from water as we believe it now.

It's just that was a place where the.

Most resources I forgot right because a lot of these temples, like when we look back on how they built, they built along the dial and so right, yeah, exactly, so they were diverting you know, waterways and everything, and eventually that that changed over thousands of years, you know, from the diverse and then of course like drought and all these kind of things that change the landscape. But I mean, you know, there was there was water closer than than what it is now, so it didn't look as like desolate or isolated away. And let's remember, you know, the Pyramids are right by the city of Cairo. True, Like you look at one direction, Oh my god, this picturesque is so desolate that you turn the other way. You're like, oh my god, there's traffic on the on the on the Teuton Common Highway.

You know what I'm saying, Like, you.

Know, yeah, I wonder we're going to play a game in Egypt?

Huh?

I mean that is there even a stadium in Egypt? You had to build the stadium like like the Pyramids to get people out there.

Could you imagine?

Yeah, sand field? Oh that would that would that would be horrible, dude, that would be terrible. That would be a low scoring game, low scoring game. Guys like their legs. Your legs are after like a quarter, yeah, exactly, Like when two drives in, it's like, hey, coach, I got sand in my boots. It's like, why are you playing in boots? Because the cleats won't stick. They keep sinking. I'm totally taking us off the rails now, that's for sure. Yeah, yeah, it's all good.

I had this.

This is yeah. I mean think about it. A wooly mammoth in Egypt. Cut it out. I mean no, I can't even see it because you overheat, man, they'd cramp up right exactly. Poppycock that's what we call. We call poppycock on that.

Yeah, wooly man is like going down and having a cramp in Egypt because it's like one hundred and thirty degrees out in the desert.

Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, no, yeah, he's definitely definitely dehydrating.

Yeah.

I mean, like I said that, that mammoth is losing weight and it's not going to it's just going to be an elephant. Yeah, you know by that time, because I mean there are African elephants, so I mean you assume that maybe as a wooly man started making his way down south, and he started shedding some hair, haircut, saying, ah, it's hot, I don't need as much hair, shake it off. And you know, by the time he got to Africa, he was an African elephant. Used to be a Willie Mammoth African elephant. So yeah, listen, listen, it's all about It's all about story, you know, just tell a story.

The story.

Yes, but the story is here wolf coming back.

Yes.

Reality.

I was about to lead with this stat and ask you can Russell Wilson continue this because right now I don't know if you knew this, but on Monday Night football history, guess who has the third highest career passer rating. That would be our Russell Wilson. That is correct, behind only Drew Brees and Steve Young, but ahead of a a Ron Rodgers and Peyton Manning a Ron the Yes, So Russell Wilson's one oh three point five average career passer rating on Monday Night football is the third highest in NFL history. Drew Brees had a one oh four point six, Steve Young had a one oh four even and just a half a point shy is Russell Wilson and then Aaron Rodgers a one oh two point two and Peyton Manny has a ninety eight point two average.

So I just wanted to.

Point that out. Can he continue that? I believe some Sunday night think about it.

He's got a career record in primetime games of thirty three, seventeen and one seventh. He's got the seventh most wins in primetime history. That Wilson would tie Brett Favre with a win this week. So I'm thinking, yes, brother, I'm thinking that this is the guy you want leading you out there, and you got to take it to the Giants and send the Giants back to New York.

And you know, too bad, you know, kick him in the butt on the way out the door.

You know what I mean?

Absolutely, And I'll go even further. Okay, he's eleven and five on Monday Night football.

Oh that's even better.

I like that even better. So of that primetime record, He's eleven and five in the Monday night edition of Primetime football. So so, you know, I think when we kind of look at that, these are some of those little parses we can we can draw away and we can take away from, you know, projecting success potentially for success, and then of course you know we go from there. You got Najie Harris, right, yeah, I mean Nase is going to be you know, if he can go for one hundred yards this week, he would he would be the fifth Dealer player to have three straight games with one hundred plus rushing yards and one plus rushing touchdowns is nineteen seventy. Wow.

I love that.

I mean, the man's on fire in the last couple of weeks, you know, and he's been extremely combative throughout the season, the whole course of the season. One of the things I've always said is, you know, he's like part running back in part cage fighter. I mean, you watch him. He attacks people with the straight arms and everything else. And now he's added some other stuff to his game where he's putting people on their keyster by just shaking at him, you know, in the open field, putting the guy like Jones on his on his rump, you know, yeah, broken ankles, set sort of thing.

Boom.

Yeah.

No, I mean, and I like it because you know, the company he could join, he would join obviously the late great Franco Harris Hall of Famer, he would he would he would also join Barry Foster, who was a really good running back here, Steel's back in the nineties Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis and James Connor, who is still ripping and roaring out in the desert yes for the Cardinals. So I mean, you're joining rarefied air in those moments. And you know that that's another thing to look at when we talk about wanting to do that, And we talked about the Saquon numbers that he put up last week on this defense. You know, we're not asking for one hundred and seventy six. We just need to break. We just need one hundred and one, you know, and that can and that looks good for your defense, right. Hey, hey, guys, you only give it one hundred and one yards this time instead of one hundred and seventy six. That's like a something percentage for improvement.

I cannot be.

You guys are odd numbers. Yeah, you're getting better. Good for you. We're keeping our record. So and then of course you know there's also this last one before we end the show. Steelers have scored thirty two plus points and back to back weeks, first time we've scored thirty two plus points in consecutive games.

Since weeks five and six.

Back in twenty twenty. So it's been four years since we scored thirty two plus. Now I've head back to back thirty plus point games. We did that last season, but thirty two plus points since twenty twenty and obviously we know who the quarterback was back then. And and here's the other thing. If we do it again this week, wolf h this will be the first time we've scored thirty plus points in three straight games since two thousand and fifteen.

Woo.

That sounds like a number to break, sounds like it sounds sounds like we're going for milestones. We're going for milestone hunting this week, and no better opponent than the New York Giants, and of course to do it in front of the you know, cozy, you know close audience of the entire world on Monday Night Football Max.

That was the year the Steelers went to the AFC Championship game, correct last that would.

Be correct, That would be correct, sir, And they did. The record actually went from Week nine to Week fifteen that year.

So, so what you're telling me is, if the Steelers rattle off thirty points here in the next game or two we're going to the AFC Championship Game.

Again. I did not say you did.

It's great, love it.

I'm just simply saying, what is going towards Lee.

That's what it is.

Yeah, exactly, Yeah, No, not happening. But but we're hey, I'm not saying it can't be done.

Camp be done. There we go. So you're saying there's a chance.

That's right, that's right, that's right. I I I am Lloyd Christmas. I am saying there's a chance. And with that, we are going to end the show. We are not dumb and dumber. We're just Max and Wolf here and mistakes.

Exactly.

If Wolf chips his tooth again, he'll definitely look legend. We put that one to us. That is one feet of strength that we are not going to attempt to again.

We're not going to.

I mean, you could be the oldest guy to ever pull a board out with your teeth.

Wolf.

Now a nail, na, No, No, I didn't say it wrong. Hold the nail, bite the board. It's softer. You're right, that would have been Oh god, alright, alright, that is a wrap. Everybody that is a show's Creig Wolf on back starts might be dumb and dumb by myself.

Well, we just got smarter today. Uh yeah, we're gonna say that. Uh no.

We will be back with more here inside the locker room tomorrow. We got Missy Matthews, we got Bob Labriola joining the show. All right, folks, go make it a great day
