September 17 is Constitution Day & Citizenship Day, an American federal observance celebrated annually to recognize the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 and to honor those who have become U.S. citizens. Ratified in 1788, The U.S. Constitution outlines the powers of the three branches of government and establishes the rights of all Americans. The document united the 13 independent states in a spirit of compromise and set forth the official viewpoint of a newly unified nation. Its most significant feature are the amendment provisions.
