Named after William III of England, King William’s War was the first of six colonial conflicts fought between New France and New England alongside their respective Native allies fueled by unresolved border disputes, competition over the fur trade, and alliances with Indigenous groups like the Iroquois. The conflict concluded with the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697, which restored prewar boundaries without any permanent land changes in North America.
