View descriptionShare

In 1687, Connecticut colonists hid their Royal Charter within a giant white oak tree's hollow to thwart its confiscation by the English governor-general. Founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker and Puritan settlers, the Connecticut Colony was one of New England’s earliest colonies.
