Imagine trying to navigate your later years in a place where the food, language, and traditions feel foreign. This is the reality for many aging South Asians in the U.S., and it’s what led to the founding of India Home, an organization that provides senior centers, co-living spaces, and even dementia day care, all tailored to the specific cultural needs of this community. As South Asian elders face the dual challenges of aging and cultural isolation, India Home offers them a place to belong, with programs that reflect their heritage.
Today, we’ll dive into these stories and more, as we talk about the incredible work being done to create spaces where seniors can truly feel at home. To guide us through this conversation, we’re joined by Samra Rashid, a licensed social worker at India Home, and Kavita Shah, the program and budget director.
