Africa Melane spoke to Khuselwa Rantjie - Eastern Cape Government Spokesperson
The Eastern Cape is facing a severe weather crisis with heavy floods, snow, and strong winds triggering widespread damage, displacement and even death. Seven people have tragically lost their lives in the Eastern Cape due to severe flooding and extreme weather conditions. A search is currently underway for a minibus carrying schoolchildren that was swept away by floodwaters. Three learners were rescued earlier this morning after being found clinging to trees downstream Emergency teams, led by the provincial government and supported by national agencies, are working tirelessly to rescue stranded residents and restore affected infrastructure. With a Level 6 weather alert in place, communities are urged to remain vigilant, heed safety warnings, and cooperate with rescue efforts as the province navigates this critical situation.
