The second annual DLO African Women in Leadership Summit tackles gender representation across African economies

 The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has started nationwide circulation of newly designed ZiG banknotes, marking a key step in Zimbabwe's ongoing currency reform efforts.

The central bank says the new ZWG notes, branded the "Big Five" series, feature improved durability, enhanced security elements, and wildlife imagery aimed at strengthening national identity. However, the rollout comes at a time when public confidence in the local currency remains fragile, with the US dollar continuing to dominate everyday transactions, particularly within informal markets.

Madagascar has declared a two‑week nationwide state of energy emergency amid severe fuel shortages caused by the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The presidency said the decision was taken following Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, amid fears that the situation could lead to public disorder.

Several African governments have responded to surging global oil prices, driven by the conflict involving Iran, by implementing sharp fuel‑price increases, energy‑saving measures or electricity rationing, among other interventions.

Global oil prices have dropped sharply, while stock markets have rallied, following a conditional two‑week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, which includes the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Although benchmark Brent crude fell by about 13% to $94.80 per barrel, prices remain significantly higher than pre‑conflict levels, when oil was trading at around $70 per barrel on February 28.
