South Africa’s National Treasury and the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources have extended the temporary fuel‑levy relief to June 2026. This follows the $0.18 relief announced in March, which provided limited short‑term relief to households amid rising fuel prices triggered by the Middle East conflict.
However, since the announcement, the continued Middle East conflict has maintained pressure on global oil prices, resulting in further increases in domestic fuel prices. Joining us now is Dr Azar Jammine, Director and Chief Economist of Econometrix (Pty) Ltd.
