US President Donald Trump has announced a global 10% tariff on all imports and higher rates for what he terms worst offenders. African countries hit with extra tariffs include 47% for Madagascar, 40% for Mauritius, 37% for Botswana, 30% for South Africa and 50% on all imports from Lesotho, the second highest rate of any country in the world after China. Agriculture is seen as a key battleground in Trump's escalating trade war, leading to frustration to farmers in countries such as South Africa, as they await communication on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) as the tariffs hit the agricultural sector. Thami Ngubeni spoke to Wolfe Braude from the Agriculture Business Chamber of South Africa.
