Why not me? Choosing who you want to be.

Published Jul 3, 2025, 5:00 PM

We get to choose who we are.

That's a truth most people don't want to accept because it puts the responsibility back on us. We don't get to tell our trauma story, our childhood, the times people have done us wrong as to why we are who we are and where we are.

We don't get to be victims.

and there is the power.

Hey, team gnais are here. Welcome back to the Building Better Humans Project podcast. I was listening to another podcast recently and I heard this quote or this guy said something that really hit with me, and he said, I realized someone out there had to be the happiest guy in the world, and I thought, why not me? Now, to me, this isn't just about happiness. It's about identity. It's about choosing who and what you want to be and then going out and being that person every single day. And we do get to choose. That's the truth most people don't want to accept because it puts the responsibility back on us. We can choose to be tired and grumpy. We can choose to be short tempered, reactive, negative. We can choose to walk around the chip on our shoulder waiting for the world to change. Or we can choose something else. We can choose to be calm, to be grateful, to be encouraging, to be someone who lifts others up even when life feels heavy. I know what you're thinking, it's not always that simple, and you're right, it's not easy, but I do think it's simple. You see the way we feel isn't always about what happening to us. It's about what we decide to focus on, what we believe, and how we show up. You don't wait for things to go right to then look on the bright side. You look on the bright side, and things are more likely to go right. It's not fake, it's not pretending everything's perfect. But it's about being real enough to say, no matter what's going on, I get to choose how I respond, and I get to choose who I am. So the question I guess is who do you want to be? Do you want to be the person who brings light into the room, who sees good in people who focus on what's possible, not just what's wrong. Or do you want to be someone who gives their power away to circumstances and waits for life to be perfect before they show up as their best self. Now there's no judgment here, just a challenge. If someone out there can be the happiest guy in the world, why not you. If someone out there can handle stress with grace, why not you. If someone out there can live with purpose and passion even when it's hard, why not you. You don't need permission, you don't need everything to be perfect. You don't need really anything other than to decide, decide who want to be, and start being that person, not someday, not when it's easier, but today, because when you show up changes everything for you, for the people around you. Now, if this landed with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it, Rate and review the podcast because it helps us reach more people like you. And remember, we're not here just to survive life. We're here to build better humans and that has to start with ourselves.
