A longtime Fourth of July tradition in Long Beach is facing major upheaval after the California Coastal Commission denied a permit for the city’s signature “Big Bang on the Bay” fireworks show, triggering backlash from residents, business owners and local leaders. The decision means that for the first time in 15 years, the July 3 celebration over Alamitos Bay will go without its hallmark fireworks display. This comes as America celebrates its 250th birthday.
