ABOUT THE GUEST

Professor Anthony Khawaja leads a data science and genomics research team at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, aiming to improve the care of patients with glaucoma and other common eye diseases. He is an Honorary Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon practicing at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he specialises in the medical and surgical care of patients with glaucoma and cataract.

Anthony completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge and University College London, and his ophthalmic residency and glaucoma fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital. His research training began with a Wellcome Trust funded PhD programme at the University of Cambridge, including a Masters in Epidemiology for which he won the Nick Day Prize. He was also awarded the Berkeley Fellowship which supported a period at Harvard Medical School.

Anthony is currently a UK Research & Innovation Future Leaders Fellow and a Lister Institute Fellow. He holds several leadership positions including: Director of the European Society of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Programme, President of the European Eye Epidemiology Consortium, Chair of the European Glaucoma Society Screening Task Force, Chair of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Informatics and Audit Committee, Chair of the UK Glaucoma Genetics Consortium, Chair of the UK Glaucoma Real-World Data Consortium.
