Headlines:  Anniversary of The Fall of The Alamo / Sons of Cream Playing Tonight / Open House at The Genealogical Society Of KC on Saturday / Spring Forward This Weekend

It’s Thursday March 6th

It was on this date in 1836 that the Alamo fell to the Mexican Army led by General Santa Anna. Over the course of 13 days, 187 Texans led by James Bowie and William B. Travis defended the fort, only to succumb to the brute force of over 2,000 militants. In the early morning, the Mexican Army broke through the outer wall and left only 15 survivors, but the Alamo became a symbol to other Texas Defenders, and remains the cradle of Texas liberty.

And I’m looking forward to driving to the River Walk in San Antonio tonight, the Sons of Cream are playing in the Empire Theatre - the son of Jack Bruce Malcolm Bruce, the son of Ginger Baker Kofi Baker, and the grand nephew of Ginger Baker Rob Johnson on Guitar playing the hits like White Room, Sunshine of Your Love, I Feel Free, and Strange Brew - congratulations to Bill Grimm of Boerne - he won the Boerne Radio Sons of Cream contest - which meant not only 2 tickets but dinner at Rita’s on the River and ice Cream at Justin’s Ice Cream Company - if you’re going look for Boerne Radio - we have a 5:00 reservation at Rita’s on The River…so come join our table!

This Saturday at the Genealogical Society of Kendall County they are hosting an open house with cake and lemonade but here’s the deal…if you are at all interested in tracing your roots - or have hit a brick wall with your efforts - stop by the Family History Place between 10 and 4 and the folks there will help you for free!  Here’s one of the great volunteers Mr. James Hurst.

The Genealogical Society of Kendall County also has scanning equipment that you can use to digitize and preserve your old family photos…and again it’s free!  They are at 114 E. Blanco, right across from the historic Courthouse.

 

And a quick reminder this Sunday morning is the big spring forward at 2am - set those clocks forward 1 hour the night before…but here’s a little tip - go to bed early tonight and tomorrow to prepare your body for that wake up call on Sunday so you can still make it to church!

Coming off a historic season, Geneva girls basketball has a player up for an award… all star Maegan Riebel is up for the Miss Texas Basketball Player of the Year… Dave Campbell’s Texas Basketball nominated her, being one of two from the San Antonio area. Hey and on Tuesday, another big name has been declared for the Valero Texas Open, and golf fans will know him well… English golfer Justin Rose, currently 36th in the entire world, will play in the Texas Open for the first time since 2006 where he tied for 17th place. Should be a great tournament coming up at the end of this month.

Headlines: Geneva Soccer Falls Short / BHS and CHS meet for first time in softball / Boerne Baseball shuts out Tivy

With your Boerne Radio Sports news, I am Esteban Serrano.

Let’s take you to Round Rock, Texas, just north of Austin where the Geneva girls soccer team was in a fight with Atonement to head to the state championship. And I won’t sugarcoat it - Atonement is in the final four for a reason, these girls could play. At the end of regulation, we are tied at 2. We now head to penalty kicks - Geneva not so lucky on one and that opens the door for atonement, and walks right through it - tough heartbreaking loss for the Eagles, 3-2. They fought hard, left it all on the field, and made history all season long. Hats off to the lady Eagles on a great season!

Alright, how bout a little softball and baseball now? Historic Tuesday night as Boerne High and Champion met for the first time in softball. This was for a district win - down 4-0 at one point, the Greyhounds came back victorious against their cross-town counterparts, 9-5 the final. Important to point out smiles, high-fives, and sportsmanship were displayed on the field following the meeting.

Greyhound baseball was also in action and victorious, 3-0 over Kerrville Tivy, and it was senior night as well. The win was thanks in part to Jackson Grimes who gave up a one-hitter and struck out 9 batters in the contest. This weekend, the squad will be swinging for the fences at the San Marcos Tournament.
