It’s Wednesday February 18th. 

It was on this date in 1861 that Jefferson Davis was inaugurated as the First President of the Confederacy. Before that, he graduated from West Point, married the daughter of President Zachary Taylor in 1835, and led troops in the Mexican War. He was also the Secretary of War from 1853 to 57. He was not only the first President of the Confederacy but also the last…

And a special happy birthday to Trisha O’Brien out at O’Brien’s Restaurant in Bergheim.  She also makes all the desserts there at O’Briens so go out and celebrate with her.

Well the All clear sounded just before 9 this morning…as just before 8am, a threatening message was discovered on a phone line at Boerne High School indicating there was several bombs on campus.

According to the Boerne Police Department, at the time the message was found, students had not yet arrived for the day. The campus had not officially opened, and only staff members and a small number of students were on site.

Officers responded immediately and began evacuating the campus while conducting a thorough search of the property.

With assistance from an FBI bomb technician and a San Antonio Police Department Bomb Unit, all buildings were carefully swept. No credible threat was found, and the campus was cleared to reopen to students by 8:45 a.m.

 

The City of Boerne is reporting a confirmed case of measles. Officials say the case appears isolated and is linked to exposure in Bandera County tied to out-of-state travel. State health officials are assisting with contact tracing. Measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air. Symptoms include high fever, cough, and a rash. Health officials urge you to make sure vaccinations are up to date, especially for children who are at a higher risk.

Herff Elementary hosted Career day this week and got a special visit from The City of Boerne’s Utilities Department and Mr. Micheal Dominguez.  The kids got a field trip out to the parking lot, where not only did Dominguez shared his love for his work for Boerne, the kids got an up-close look at his bucket truck.  There were no free rides in the bucket…The Herff kids stayed grounded…

Mr. Electric says no lightning in the forecast this week…we’ll get to a high of 80 today, the next cool front hits this Saturday where we’ll see highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s, and how about the mid 40s on Sunday.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center desperately needs Type O negative blood. Not only is the blood type the universal donor, but there are patients who are waiting for blood that have no other options. If you are willing to give, you can reserve your spot at southtexasblood.org.

Headlines: boys basketball teams close out regular seasons / Geneva girls claim area title / baseball & softball wrap-up from last night

Final boys basketball scores from last night- Boerne High closes out their season against Tivy with a W, 59–48. A great future awaits this Greyhound team. As for the Chargers, they close out the regular season having won 9-straight, and taking care of business against Smithson Valley, 70-36. Now, the only thing left is to wait for the official bracket to be released for their bi-district playoff game early next week.

Geneva girls in a tough battle already in the TAPPS playoffs- a close one against Rosehill, but they earn the victory and claim the area title, 39-30. 

Over to baseball and softball- Geneva baseball wins 20-7 over Lutheran High School, Champion baseball shutout Vets, 10-0, and Champion softball had a good night against Smithson Valley, winning 10-5.
