Teams played their games a little early this week because of the Easter weekend. Boerne Champion baseball defeated Pieper 8-5 after also winning on Tuesday against the Warriors. Champion is 2 for 2 this week. And the first of two softball meetings between the Greyhounds and Chargers happened last night- Champion was the victor in this one, 5-1.

And Brady Chandler of Geneva will be competing in the pole vault competition of the Texas Relays from Mike A. Myers Stadium at UT. He will do so at 1:30, best of luck to him. 

Speaking of UT, the women’s Final Four is tonight. They face UCLA with a chance to go to the national championship tonight around 8:30.

It’s Friday, April 3rd. 

As Passover Celebrations ended at nightfall last night where Jewish families remember the Exodus from Egypt more than 3000 years ago when the first born of everyone in Egypt was killed by the Angel of Death but passed over the Israelites if they spread the blood of a lamb on their doorposts…and so today is also Good Friday where God’s son - the Lamb of God Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross so that we could be spared from death and have everlasting life.  If you’re hearing that connection for the first time, I recommend checking out the full list of all the Easter Services in Boerne and the Hill Country at boerneradio.com. 

And as it’s Good Friday, City Offices, the library, and Boerne ISD Schools will be closed today. Easter Sunday is one of two days when HEB is officially closed all day.  

Battle of the Badges is on at the Boerne Police Department, with proceeds supporting Love Kendall County Kids. Every $100 gets you a vote, and whichever Officer accumulates the most votes will get pied with a special treat from our friends over at Tootie Pie. Voting is open now and ends next Friday. -Saturday will be the pie thrown down in Main Plaza at 4:30. 

Tomorrow morning is “Coffee with a Cop”at the Black Rifle.   The Boerne Police Department will be representing from 9 to 11 and are available to answer questions, and just hang to get to know you.  

Hill Country Crisis Council, in partnership with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, is hosting the Stronger Together: Child Protection Summit on May 13 & 14 at The Kendall in Boerne.This important two day conference will bring together professionals from across the Hill Country to help collaborate on how to deal with crimes against children. The conference is free to attend, and registration is open at the link posted in the news blog at boerneradio.com

It’s Thursday April 2nd. 

 

And a few Boerne Radio birthdays to recognize…the late great Marvin Gaye was born on this date in 1939, so was Leon Russell in 1942… and a happy 78th birthday to Grand Ole Opry Member, Country Music Hall of Fame and 14-time Grammy winner Emmylou Harris.  Also a special happy birthday to Bradley Laurenson right here in Boerne.

Jo Groff is the new director of the Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce after its former leader Dr. Charlie Hueber accepted the position of executive director of Economic Development for the city of Santa Fe, Texas, which is between Houston and Galveston.   Groff, a commercial property owner and active in the Comfort Heritage Foundation, said it is her hope to restore Comfort’s status as a tourist center and a historic small-town destination. 

 

A new book has hit the Boerne shelves today and it’s called How Boerne Made History and Played On the Their Field Of Dreams.  It’s a memoir of the historic journey of our Little League team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.   It’s written by Tim Christ whose son Caleb Krist was part of that team, and you can hear my interview with Tim this Saturday morning right here on Boerne Radio.  Be looking for book signing events at the Boerne Bookshop and D1.  Only 150 copies are available on this first run so get yours today.

 

For our Fair Oaks neighbors, there will be a delay on the Cibolo Creek Bridge project by TxDOT, which will cause the contractor to delay the completion of the final configuration. With weather permitting, work will continue today as traffic moves to one lane. Work operations are expected to occur between 8 and 5, with traffic controlled by flaggers and law enforcement.

5A Texas HS Baseball on X has named Greyhound pitcher Jackson Grimes the pitcher of the week. Grimes this past week had 7 innings pitched and 6 strikeouts.

And the Spurs sailed past the Warriors, 127-113. Wemby recorded 41 points in the effort. Tonight, the Spurs go to LA to face the Clippers at 9:30.
