Boerne High Volleyball teams begin play at home at 5:15 tonight as its Senior Night for the Varsity team. They will be recognizing seven seniors tonight as a part of the festivities. 

Geneva Volleyball heads to New Braunfels Christian Academy for a varsity match at 6:15. 

The Comfort Deer head to Blanco, and Bandera Volleyball travels to Wimberley. Both varsity matches begin at 6. 

Boerne Geneva Tennis defeated Ambleside in a clean sweep, 12-0. Their next matchups on Friday… Central Catholic is the boys’ opponent, and Incarnate Word San Antonio is the girls’ opponent. 

This is it - Rangers and Astros have 6 games remaining in the regular season. Texas holds a one-game lead in the AL West standings. They host the Mets tonight through Thursday, with first pitch tonight starting at 7:05. Astros head northwest and take on the Mariners tonight and tomorrow - today’s game will begin at 8:40.

It’s Tuesday September 22nd. 

 

And it was on this date in 1985 that the very first Farm Aid concert was held in Champaign, Illinois.  Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young organized the event to help struggling American family farmers. The concert drew about 80-thousand people and raised more than 9-million dollars.

 

And happy first full day of Fall!  Lower 70s for lows, lower 90s for the highs and a chance for thunderstorm like yesterday over the next couple of days….as our leaves turn from green to brown, light brown, dark brown, and my favorite drought brown extra crispy.

A couple of big meetings tonight, we’ve been talking about the one tonight at the Kendall County Fair Association at 6.  All are welcome, but only members can vote.  And Boerne City Council meets at the same time.  A couple of topics include the Automatic License Plate Reader program.  Kendall County voted to end its contract, now it’s Boerne’s turn.  Plus, they will talk about the Boerne Heritage Volkspark project.

 

49 states celebrated National Night Out in August, but in Texas ours is coming up October 6th from 5-8pm where traditionally the idea is to pull out the lawn chairs in your front yard with the neighbors as the local fire department in their trucks makes the rounds around neighborhoods but Officer Chris Dingman with the Boerne Police Department has a new tradition to offer.

There will be food trucks and fire trucks so bring the kids.

Comfort is doing the same idea at Comfort Park except they are making it a community potluck dinner with entertainment by the Lone Star Swing Orchestra. 

 

Starting this week crews will begin removing trees infected with oak wilt from the Boerne Cemetery. Earlier this year, crews conducted a comprehensive assessment and inventory of every headstone in the cemetery, identifying which ones need to be leveled or rescued. The City also is beginning to enforce existing ordinances that regulate items left at gravesites in order to maintain the cemetery's appearance and safety. 

 

The City of Boerne has received an improved federal rating for its ongoing work to manage flood risk, which for residents means greater flood insurance discounts. FEMA notified officials recently that our classification has improved from a Class 7 to a Class 6. That places us in the top 26 of the 1,261 Texas communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program.

Born on this day in 1912 was the phenomenal Chuck Jones, who helped animate, create and direct the Looney Tunes bunch. In his lifetime, Chuck Jones made over 300 films, was nominated for 9 academy awards and was given a Lifetime Achievement Oscars in 1996. He had a hand in creating some of your favorite characters, from Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck to super genius Wile. E Coyote and the Roadrunner. He also directed one of the Wiley’s favorite Christmas specials, Dr. Suess’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

The Kendall County Fair Association is calling a Special Membership Meeting that is open to the public tomorrow night in the New Hall at the Fairgrounds.  This is on the heels after former Queens Court members and community supporters demanded changes in leadership, accountability and reforms to the pageant program. And while are welcome to attend, voting is only open to KCFA members who joined 30 days ago.   The meeting starts at 7pm.

 

A local freight carrier and Amazon Delivery Service Partner is laying off hundreds of people in the greater San Antonio area after their contract with Amazon ended. Boerne-based 4XH Logistics LLC is laying off 230 local workers between November 6th and November 19th after deciding to completely shut down without a renewal. The company began in 2019, but recently filed a WARN notice with the Texas Workforce Commission-the notice essentially gives the commission an advance warning when larger employers are going to undergo a mass layoff. 

 

The Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center announced that they raised $60,000 at their gala last Tuesday. Every dollar that was raised will go directly towards client care, and by hitting their goal, they received an additional $60,000 match to make their impact go further. 

Tomorrow morning, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country hosts its annual Nonprofit Summit at The Bevy Hotel.  The full-day event brings nonprofit leaders together for networking, professional development and community collaboration.

Backtracking to Friday, Champion volleyball completed a program sweep from the freshman to varsity, as they faced South San. Boerne High is getting set to face Alamo Heights tomorrow night as its Senior Night for the varsity. 

After wins Friday, Boerne High’s Rory Hotchkin and Champion’s Owen Kuhl are up for the Proud Pops Player of the Week by Texas Sports Productions. Backtracking to Friday, Champion volleyball completed a program sweep from the freshman to varsity, as they faced South San. Boerne High is getting set to face Alamo Heights tomorrow night as its Senior Night for the varsity.&nbsp;
After wins Friday, Boerne High&rsquo;s Rory Hotchkin and Champion&rsquo;s Owen Kuhl are up for the Proud Pops Player of the Week by Texas Sports Productions.
