It’s Tuesday September 22nd. 

And it was on this date in 1985 that the very first Farm Aid concert was held in Champaign, Illinois.  Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young organized the event to help struggling American family farmers. The concert drew about 80-thousand people and raised more than 9-million dollars.

And happy first full day of Fall!  Lower 70s for lows, lower 90s for the highs and a chance for thunderstorm like yesterday over the next couple of days….as our leaves turn from green to brown, light brown, dark brown, and my favorite drought brown extra crispy.

A couple of big meetings tonight, we’ve been talking about the one tonight at the Kendall County Fair Association at 6.  All are welcome, but only members can vote.  And Boerne City Council meets at the same time.  A couple of topics include the Automatic License Plate Reader program.  Kendall County voted to end its contract, now it’s Boerne’s turn.  Plus, they will talk about the Boerne Heritage Volkspark project.

49 states celebrated National Night Out in August, but in Texas ours is coming up October 6th from 5-8pm where traditionally the idea is to pull out the lawn chairs in your front yard with the neighbors as the local fire department in their trucks makes the rounds around neighborhoods but Officer Chris Dingman with the Boerne Police Department has a new tradition to offer.

There will be food trucks and fire trucks so bring the kids.

Comfort is doing the same idea at Comfort Park except they are making it a community potluck dinner with entertainment by the Lone Star Swing Orchestra. 

Starting this week crews will begin removing trees infected with oak wilt from the Boerne Cemetery. Earlier this year, crews conducted a comprehensive assessment and inventory of every headstone in the cemetery, identifying which ones need to be leveled or rescued. The City also is beginning to enforce existing ordinances that regulate items left at gravesites in order to maintain the cemetery's appearance and safety. 

The City of Boerne has received an improved federal rating for its ongoing work to manage flood risk, which for residents means greater flood insurance discounts. FEMA notified officials recently that our classification has improved from a Class 7 to a Class 6. That places us in the top 26 of the 1,261 Texas communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program.
