Baseball and softball teams continue their district battles tonight- Greyhound baseball will face Tivy and Charger baseball has a game against Smithson Valley. Both games will begin at 7. What other game will begin at 7? The Greyhound and the Charger softball teams as they square off in the first of 2 planned district meetings this season.

It’s Tuesday March 3rd. 

 

And it was on this date in 1931 that Francis Scott Key’s song The Star-Spangled Banner was declared the American National Anthem by the US Congress.  Key wrote the song in 1814 after seeing the American flag flying following the British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. 

It’s also Primary Election Day!  Here are some of the spots where you can cast your ballot here in Boerne. The City Hall training room will be open from 7 to 7 today, as well as First Baptist Church, the Kendall County Fairgrounds, The Burdick Community Center, Ninetee:Ten Church, and Boerne Bible Church. Other polls included the Bergheim VFD, the Waring Fire House, the Kendalia Community Center, the Sisterdale Community Center and Comfort Baptist. 

 

After 25 years of dedicated service to Boerne ISD Athletics, Terry Gault is moving on. Gault spent seven years at Boerne High School and 18 at Champion High School, serving the past nine years as Assistant Athletic Director. AD Coach Stan Leach honored him in his announcement saying Terry Gault is known as a steady presence and trusted advocate for student-athletes and families, Gault is now headed to Northeast ISD as Assistant Athletic Director. Boerne ISD says he’ll be greatly missed on the sidelines and in the training room.

 

A Boerne Police school resource officer is taking on a new role — wildlife educator. Corporal David Chavez helped launch a first-of-its-kind partnership between Kendall Elementary and the San Antonio Zoo. Through the “Animal Connections” program, a different zoo animal visits the campus each month.  The program began in January with Corporal Chavez pictured with a chinchilla Dr. Garbanzo Beans The First - and recently Yavari the Sloth visited and is already inspiring students with lessons focused on themes like patience and perseverance.  The plans are to continue through the spring and possibly into summer school.

 

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is removing a tree from Fair Oaks Parkway, resulting in a temporary traffic shift today and tomorrow. Fair Oaks Parkway between Oakview Pass and Pope Crossing will continue to have two-way traffic shifted to one side of the street, while the opposite side remains dedicated to tree contractors to ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.There are minor delays expected, but the work should be done quickly.

It’s Monday March 2nd. 

 

And it’s Texas Independence Day…

It was on this date in 1836 that Texas became a Republic as The Fearless 59 delegates from the seventeen Mexican municipalities of Texas and the settlement of Pecan Point met at Washington-on-the-Brazos and drew up the resolution to declare Independence from Mexico.  Men in the room included Sam Houston, Lorenzo De Zavala, and David G. Burnet.

Meanwhile 180 miles to the west, It was the 9th day of the Alamo siege where these brave men knew by now they were not making it out alive.  The Alamo is therefore known as the Cradle of Texas Liberty.  

 

Kendall County voters flocked to the polls in near-record numbers during early voting, outpacing even the presidential race in 2024. Typically turnout in early voting for non-presidential primary years usually hits about 13%, but according to Kendall County Elections Administrator Staci Decker, that figure was already surpassed by last Wednesday. As of Friday evening, 18.89% of registered voters had cast their ballot. 5980 Republicans voted in person, and 1516 Democrats did the same.  Tomorrow is election day, so if you haven’t already, make a plan to make it to the polls. 

 

The Kendall County Democratic Party announced Suanne Pyle’s selection as their new Party Chair, effective March 4. She formerly served as the party’s treasurer, but took up the mantle of Chair after Laura Bray resigned after more than five years. Bray had high praise for her successor, saying “Suanne brings skill, knowledge and determination to the position and will be an outstanding leader”. 

 

The Boerne Chamber of Commerce has 4 ribbon cuttings this week starting on Tuesday. They will begin with a celebration for Lemon Creek Smiles Dentistry at 11:30 tomorrow, and then will make their way to the Hill Country Animal Rescue at 1:30. Transformation House will be honored at 1:30 on Thursday, and Pinchy’s Lobster and Rawbar will cut their ribbon at 11:30 on Friday.

Geneva boys and girls soccer teams qualified for the state tournaments last week and will play for a chance at the state championship game- the boys are set to play the International School of Houston, and the girls are to face John Paul II from Schertz. We may have to name it the “FM-1853” rivalry. At the time this report was published, we do not know the times and days of the games. 

Geneva varsity track also had a great weekend at the Bandera HS Invitational- Gracyn Miller earned 10 points total for placements in the women’s shot put and discus. Mikhail Boespflug earns 12 points total for placements in men’s discus and shot put. Brady Chandler broke a venue record with a 15’ pole vault jump, earning him gold in the event. 

On Saturday morning at Champion High School track legend and Stanford-bound Elizabeth Leechman hosted the 2nd Annual Champion Hope In Motion 5K with over a 100 runners raising thousands of dollars for Blood Cancer United. Your Male overall winner was 14 year old Luke Longson from Boerne with a time of 19 minutes and 10 seconds.  Your female overall winner was 17 year old Luciana Ibarra with her time of 19 minutes and 52 seconds but also note she was also crossed the finish line in 3rd place overall.   And some Boerne Radio love to Ms Jean Holt who came in first place in the female 60 and over heat…her time was 39 minutes and 48.3 seconds - 44th overall - at the young age of 78, and Mr. Richard Holt with his time of 39 minutes and 48 seconds.  Mr. Holt is 81.
