In a game scoreless through the regulation minutes, Spain and Argentina exchanged close calls back and forth. The climax was a red card to Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez in minute 3’ of additional time. The game went to extra time, and Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute. The whistle would blow, and Spain would be crowned champions in 2026. England won the 3rd place game Saturday over France, 6-4. Speaking of Spain, they will be one of three host countries for the 2030 World Cup. See you in four years! 

Now, at least here in the U.S. and in Boerne, we turn our attention to fútbol Americano. High school football will be back in just a month… so will college and the NFL. It’s getting excitingly close! I can’t believe I’m saying it.

Boerne Utilities customers will be able to drop off flood debris to Northrup Park starting on Wednesday. Flood-damaged materials from homes and businesses, including fencing, flooring, sheetrock and brush, will be collected by WM at no cost. Hazardous materials will not be collected, and the City is also asking residents to utilize bulky item pickup to collect large appliances and furniture. To use the drop off site, you must present a valid I.D. and a recent utilities bill-the site will be open 8 to 5, Monday through Friday until the 31st. 

 

Boerne Animal Care Services evacuated 17 dogs and 30 cats from its Esser Road shelter to the Kendall County Animal Shelter. All adoptable animals have since been transferred to Austin Pets Alive. Because no animals are currently available to the public, the shelter’s volunteer program is paused until further notice. 

 

Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries has partnered with Mercy Chefs to serve as a contact point for meal requests for the Texas Hill Country flood response. They are providing chef prepared meals to flood victims, first responders and volunteer teams. If your church, nonprofit or group needs meals while serving in affected areas, you can contact Daily Bread at 830-755-5200; just provide a head count and a location where the meals are needed. 

 

Kendall County could become only the nation’s second “Dark Sky County.” Commissioner Richard Chapman says reducing nighttime light pollution would preserve the area’s scenic character and boost tourism. 

 

A Champion High School graduate is marching toward a childhood dream. Matthew Juarez earned a coveted spot in the mellophone section of Phantom Regiment—one of the world’s premier drum corps. Just hours after graduation, he flew to Kentucky to begin rehearsals and a nationwide summer tour.  Saturday night, he performed before a sold-out Alamodome crowd at the DCI Southwestern Championship, where Phantom Regiment placed sixth.  Next stop: the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals August 8th in Indianapolis.  For Matthew Jaurez…the beat goes on!

And it was on this date in 1955 that Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California-and covering the live broadcast on television was Ronald Reagan and produced by Art Linkletter who was also celebrating his 43rd birthday - he was born in 1912. 

If today is your birthday you share it with Luke Bryan who turns 50 today, and actor and popular singer in Germany David Hasslehoff, he turns 74 today.  Other Birthdays in Boerne today include Darcee Grivel and Sharon Parks.

Boerne Radio would like to tip our hat to our great Boerne businesses who over delivered in our community yesterday- Sauced Wing Bar provided lunch for the Boerne Fire Department, and Las Gutiarras Cocina Mexicana offered free plates of food to the public all day. Comfort High School offered refuge as a temporary shelter throughout the week, and the Center continued delivering their Meals on Wheels program to seniors in Boerne.  The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country also announced that they were launching the Texas Hill Country Relief Fund to support their 10 county service areas affected by the flooding. 

 

Residents of Fair Oaks Ranch were also impacted by the flooding, but yesterday were informed by the city that 75,000 gallons of domestic wastewater had been discharged into Cibolo Creek. Floodwaters overwhelmed the bottom of the Hill Lift Station, causing the pumps to fail and an upstream manhole near Cojak Circle to overflow. As of now, the City’s water system has not been affected and continues to meet drinking water standards. If you live within City limits, attempt to avoid contact with floodwater, don’t fish, and boil or used distilled water if you have a private well. 

 

For our neighbors up in Kerrville and Ingram, at least one person is dead after catastrophic flooding swept across Kerr County yesterday. Torrential rain—nearly 19 inches in Ingram alone—destroyed or damaged homes and businesses and washed out several bridges. Kerrville and Kerr County have declared local disasters as crews continue rescues and evacuations. Numerous highways and roads remain closed, including Interstate 10 west of Kerrville. Officials warn more river rise is possible, though rain chances are expected to ease today. 

 

 

Singing Water Vineyards found that their livestock and equipment were all accounted for, but more importantly, that their family and staff were all safe. They will remain closed through the weekend, but will reopen next weekend to welcome the Texas Eagles…an Eagles tribute band.  We have a contest happening now where you can win 4 VIP Tickets and a table, plus a bottle of their Singing Water Freedom wine.
