Buzz Aldrin joined him 20 minutes later.

Boerne Utilities customers will be able to drop off flood debris to Northrup Park starting on Wednesday. Flood-damaged materials from homes and businesses, including fencing, flooring, sheetrock and brush, will be collected by WM at no cost. Hazardous materials will not be collected, and the City is also asking residents to utilize bulky item pickup to collect large appliances and furniture. To use the drop off site, you must present a valid I.D. and a recent utilities bill-the site will be open 8 to 5, Monday through Friday until the 31st. 

Boerne Animal Care Services evacuated 17 dogs and 30 cats from its Esser Road shelter to the Kendall County Animal Shelter. All adoptable animals have since been transferred to Austin Pets Alive. Because no animals are currently available to the public, the shelter’s volunteer program is paused until further notice. 

Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries has partnered with Mercy Chefs to serve as a contact point for meal requests for the Texas Hill Country flood response. They are providing chef prepared meals to flood victims, first responders and volunteer teams. If your church, nonprofit or group needs meals while serving in affected areas, you can contact Daily Bread at 830-755-5200; just provide a head count and a location where the meals are needed. 

Kendall County could become only the nation’s second “Dark Sky County.” Commissioner Richard Chapman says reducing nighttime light pollution would preserve the area’s scenic character and boost tourism. 

A Champion High School graduate is marching toward a childhood dream. Matthew Juarez earned a coveted spot in the mellophone section of Phantom Regiment—one of the world’s premier drum corps. Just hours after graduation, he flew to Kentucky to begin rehearsals and a nationwide summer tour.  Saturday night, he performed before a sold-out Alamodome crowd at the DCI Southwestern Championship, where Phantom Regiment placed sixth.  Next stop: the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals August 8th in Indianapolis.  For Matthew Jaurez…the beat goes on!
