Boerne Champion girls swim and dive teams are back-to-back state champions after a historic outing this weekend in Austin. Coach Scott Slay received his Coach of the Year plaque, and then the competition commenced. And the girls and the coaching staff jumped into the pool in celebration. This also after the team won the first 200-yard medley race with a state record, shattering the record they set last year! The time was 1:43.79 last year, and this year, the time was 1:43.08. Congrats to the girl’s team.
Here’s something that may seem unbelievable: yesterday was exactly 46 years to the day on February 22, 1980 when Al Michaels famously uttered the words “do you believe in miracles?” as the United States men’s hockey team would defeat the Soviet Union 4-3 to claim their first ever Olympic gold medal in the Lake Placid Winter Games. Fast forward to February 22, 2026 in Milan, Italy, and the men’s U.S. Hockey team does it again, defeating Canada 2-1 in overtime. This is only the 2nd gold medal for men’s hockey here in the States. 12 gold medals total across all sports in this Winter Olympiad for the USA, including the women’s hockey team claiming gold. And in just a little over 2 years, the summer games will be played for the most part in Los Angeles, so not too far away.
