Here’s a positive prelude to the upcoming football season for the Boerne Greyhounds… LoneStarPreps.com has listed 4 players as a part of their Top Returning Defensive Players for 5A Division 2, District 13. Jake Perez, Jaxon Baize, Logan Fritcher, and Logan Schram were mentioned… Now we know the Greyhounds are assured to be a dominant team once again in 2024. 

In Major League Baseball… The Rangers came close but with not enough against Baltimore, 2-1 they fall. Astros lose to the Mets on the road, 7-2. Houston will get another crack at it today at 3:10, and the Rangers at 6:15. 

In Minor League Baseball, The Missions defeated Midland, 5-3 last night. The series continues through Sunday. The Missions are 31-34 on the season. 

And the Gunslingers are back in action at the Freeman Coliseum tonight. The Frisco Fighters come to town for a 6:05 showdown. Tickets are available on their website- SanAntonioGunslingers.com.

It’s July 1st and the month is already off to a rocking start in the sports world.

FIrst, the BIG news from the Spurs Organization… On the first day of free agency, the Spurs crunch numbers and verbally agree with Chris Paul to sign him to an $11-million plus deal for 1 year, according to multiple sources. With the addition of Stephon Castle, it seems like the Spurs want some mentorship for him and Victor Wembanyama to get San Antonio (possibly) back in the win-column this upcoming year. The Spurs could also trade Paul after acquiring him for draft picks or maybe more players… In other words, the Spurs have options and there could be more All-Stars making their way to South Texas… so, the frenzy is just getting started; stay tuned ladies and gentlemen. 

Into the world of the Jim Scholssnagle controversy out of College Station- it didn’t take long for the Aggies to find their new Head Coach, let alone, take leaving their own backyard… Michael Earley, who was the pitching coach for the past 3 seasons, will take the promotion to head coach. So, yes, he was a factor in turning A&M into a dominant offense, and playing a factor in getting them to the World Series this past season.

Something happened for the Texas Rangers that hasn’t happened since 1985- a rookie hitting a cycle- Wyatt Langford, drafted in 2023, hit his first career cycle against Baltimore last night. (Meaning he hit a single, double, triple, and home run all in the same night) It is only the 11th cycle in Rangers history, and it was a big one. Texas wins, 11-2. They come back home to face San Diego starting tomorrow night.

The 42-41 Astros get over .500 with the 10-5 win against the Mets yesterday, they travel North next to visit the Blue Jays.

Boerne Radio Sports - July 1, 2024

It’s Monday July 1st. 



A month named in honor of Julius Caesar.  Before it was July it was called Quin-Tillis, being the 5th month of a 10 month calendar.  It’s the 183rd day of the year with 183 days until 2025. It is national hot dog month...national ice cream month…and National garlic month.  We know who you are, garlic lovers.

Although we’ve had plentiful rain in the month of June, and while we have a pass to fire off our own fireworks on the 4th, Boerne Utilities is still holding its customers to Stage 2 Water restrictions and you Cow Creekers are still in Stage 4…in fact this July 18th it’ll be the 1-year anniversary of Stage 4.  Cow Creek is hosting a public hearing on July 22nd for comments on the proposed amendments to the Rules of the District.  See the details at ccgcd.org.



The next Abendkonzert featuring the Boerne Village Band is tomorrow night. The performance is a part of the Summer Concert Series, and will explore German Folk Music, touch on Boerne’s rich history and unique culture. Bring your lawn chairs and coolers to Main Plaza, the concert starts at 7:30.



The Nature and Art Summer Camps still have some open slots in July at the Cibolo Center For Conservation.  The Nature Camp happen weekdays from 9 to 1:30, and the Art Camp goes from 1:30 to 4:30.  Sign your kids up quick at cibolo.org.

Charles Esser Sr came to Texas in 1848 from Germany. He and his wife Henrietta had ten children. Richard, the youngest child, married Emilie Schuetz from Kendalia in 1904. The family moved northeast of Boerne where they had a dairy farm. Another son, Paul Esser and Emma Schuetz married in 1894 and purchased land six miles west of Kendalia. They moved to Boerne in 1933 where their girls attended Holy Angels Academy and Boerne High School. Their son Arthur became a director of Boerne State Bank, GVTC, and The Kendall County Fair Association.
