Charles Esser Sr came to Texas in 1848 from Germany. He and his wife Henrietta had ten children. Richard, the youngest child, married Emilie Schuetz from Kendalia in 1904. The family moved northeast of Boerne where they had a dairy farm. Another son, Paul Esser and Emma Schuetz married in 1894 and purchased land six miles west of Kendalia. They moved to Boerne in 1933 where their girls attended Holy Angels Academy and Boerne High School. Their son Arthur became a director of Boerne State Bank, GVTC, and The Kendall County Fair Association.

Wednesday 7/3

Well, we are just 2 weeks away from July 16- that is when the MLB All-Star Game will take place… by the way, the American vs National League summer classic will be played this year at Globe Life Field in Arlington. But, this means a few things: trades within the league will start to be made soon, but probably more importantly, it’ll be crunch time soon as it’s over because the 2nd half of the season will be underway. 

Adding the games from last night- Rangers defeat the Padres 7-0, and the Blue Jays beat the Astros, 7-6. As it stands right now, Houston is 3.5 games behind the leader (Seattle) with a 43-42 record. Texas is 7.5 games behind Seattle with a 39-46 record, and only 4 games behind Houston. Both teams will continue the series they are currently in through Thursday.

Game 2 between the Hooks and the Missions last night ended in favor of San Antonio. The Missions pitcher, Robby Snelling, struckout 7 batters to lead the team to an 8-1 victory. The Missions are now 37-39 on the year. Final game of the road series is tonight at 6:35.

Boerne Radio Sports - July 3, 2024

It’s Wednesday July 3rd

And on the eve of the day we celebrate the birthday date of our country, there were a few iconic deaths that occurred on July 3rd including Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones in 1969, Jim Morrison in 1971, and a personal hero of mine passed away on this date in 2012 who played the part of Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show.

And as tomorrow is the 4th of July, needless to say as a Federal Holiday all City and County offices are closed including the Post Office, Library,  Banks, and other financial institutions, in fact the stock market trading session ends 3 hours early today.

But Boerne Radio will continue to play the greatest patriotic music throughout the day and go all patriotic like Christmas music tomorrow night from 8 to 10 - music to watch fireworks by here on Boerne Radio 103.9FM.

Boerne Radio News - July 3, 2024

Tuesday 7/2

Well, it is official. The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Oklahoma are apart of the Southeastern Conference. I’ll admit, it even looks weird to see burnt orange and another school with maroon colors next to the conference logo. In fact, on July 21, it would have been 3 years to the day in which both schools announced plans to join the conference and leave the Big 12. So, the next item on the schedule is football season which a lot of people are looking forward to… we’ll have to wait until November 30 for the Aggies to finally play the Longhorns again. But until then, welcome to the SEC!

In game 1 against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Houston Astros prevailed, 3-1. The Astros are now 43-41, and continue their series in Canada tonight at 6. The Rangers come home to play the Padres at 7. The series will run through Thursday.
