Today we begin with history being made by the Texas Longhorn Softball team. They defeated Texas Tech by a final score of 4-1 to win their 2nd World Series in a row. This was a game where the Red Raiders scored first and maybe the thoughts lingered of, ‘we may have a third game’, but if you mess with the bull, you get the horns. The Longhorns scored 2 in the 5th and then 2 in the 7th to win it. A repeat is tough enough, but can they make it 3? We’ll find out next year. 

Former teammates reunite in Arizona- Bexson Harrison and Griff Orloff will join the Arizona Swim and Dive team after both entered the transfer portal. Both may be there in different categories, but the Wildcats are getting one heck of a package deal. I mean these two won medals while at Boerne Champion. Best of luck to the both of them.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals tonight at 7:30 on ABC- Spurs find themselves in the hole 1 game to none against the Knicks. Wemby said he isn’t worried and Dylan Harper said “we have a chip on our shoulders.” The Spurs need to spark that fire with the flint they have- in other words, this is the game to make a statement before you head to New York and have to play the tough environment over there. And you also don’t want to be down 2-0 heading over there. Big game tonight- Let’s see if the guys can get it done.

It’s Friday June 5th.

 

And it was on this date in 2004 our 40th President of the United States passed away at the age of 93 -  Ronald Wilson Reagan.   It was also on this date in 1968 that Bobby Kennedy was fatally shot by 24-year-old Sirhan Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California primary.  He died the next day.

And still living is Kenny G - he turns 70 today. Don Reid of the Statler Brothers turns 81.

And here in Boerne we say happy birthday to Katie Clark, Jonas Vasquez, Ann Marie Mungia, the lovely Linda Melendrez, and Happy Birthday to our BBBVIP Karen Ingram out at Riven Rock Ranch in Comfort…the party is tomorrow at 7:30 with the JR Herrera Band and La Calabria Wood Fired Pizza.

 

Board of Trustees member Rich Sena represented Boerne ISD at a recent Texas House Public Education Committee hearing. He provided a testimony about issues facing our public schools, including HB 2 implementation, school finance, teacher recruitment and investments in special education. Mr. Sena shared a local perspective on the importance of supporting teachers, strengthening public schools and ensuring districts have the stable funding needed to serve students, staff and families well. 

 

Boerne ISD is joining the American Heart Association’s District of Lifesavers initiative for the 2026-27 school year. The program promotes heart health, CPR awareness, and community service. Five Boerne ISD elementary students recently ranked among the top 50 fundraisers out of 15,000 participants regionally through the Kids Heart Challenge. Recognized students include: Kendall Elementary: Kellen W. (26th), Victor M. (29th) Curington Elementary: Ruby S. (24th), Jaxson W. (39th) Herff Elementary: Samuel M. (30th).  District leaders say the partnership will help prepare students to make a meaningful impact both in and out of the classroom. 

 

A massive new youth sports complex and county park could be on its way to the southern edge of Kendall County. The land, located in the sprawlingLemon Creek Area, about 10 minutes from Boerne, currently belongs to the Alamo Colleges District. If approved, the 18-acre sports complex would add eight new baseball diamonds, four soccer fields and a 200-car parking lot to the area. 

 

Programming alert - tomorrow morning at 9 we’ll be airing an hour-long interview with Greyhound Football Coach Brett Sawyer on the Beyond the Lights: Football Across Texas podcast hosted by Coach Brandon Brown.

It’s Thursday June 4th. 


And on this day in American history The Battle of Midway begins in 1942.  It would be Japan’s first major defeat and a turning point of the war.  All four of Japan’s large aircraft carriers and a heavy cruiser were sunk, while the US lost only the USS Yorktown and a destroyer.  

And happy birthdays are in order and in alphabetical order to Casey Styers, David Clark, Jim McCorkle, and Meghan Scott!  Today is also Michelle Phillips birthday from the Mamas and the Papas - she is 82

 

Disappointing Spurs loss last night in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, but do you know who really won?  Boerne did!  It started with a Marco Crawford Law commercial with a scene shot at Boerne Sips Nutrition, Then the Boerne Police and Fire Department Color Guard took the floor for the National Anthem, and they were introduced by Boerne Radio’s own Roland Ruiz, whose voice has now been heard around the world. 

 

The Atlanta based Chicken Salad Chick had a major turnout yesterday-lines of lawn chairs wrapped around the building in anticipation of some free food for a whole year. 55 people were already lined up by the time they opened, when typically, they only have about 30. Director of Marketing and Catering for Chicken Salad Chick Janice Morfin said the promotion continues today.

She told the Boerne Star has been very inviting, comforting and full of enthusiasm.

Headlines: Knicks beat Spurs in Game 1 of Finals / UT Longhorns one win away from back to back softball titles / Boerne ISD named “District of Distinction”

Game 1 of the NBA Finals - last night at the Frost Bank Center. It did not feel real at all. It felt like a fever dream if anything. To the action, Jalen Brunson, the star player on New York, exchanged a shot with Wemby to start the game… talk about cinema. A game of runs was the storyline. The Spurs led most of the way through, and after 3 frames, we were tied at 76. In the 4th quarter down the stretch, New York started hitting their shots. Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Karl Anthony Towns were outperforming Wemby, Castle, Fox, and the others. Final was 105-95, New York takes game 1.

Following the game, Mitch Johnson spoke to the media. The Spurs shot only 36% in field goals, and had only 16 assists. Johnson said to expect changes in game 2. And this goes back to the first game jitters. 

All in all, the Knicks in the postseason have outscored their opponents in the 11-game win streak they had coming into it, by 262 points which is a lot. The Spurs in one game, lost by only 10. Game 2 becomes a must win as you don’t want to head to the Big Apple down 2 games. The 2nd game is tomorrow at 7:30 from San Antonio.

From Oklahoma City, UT takes game 1 of the college Softball World Series over Texas Tech, 7-3 the final score. They could win the championship for the 2nd year in a row tonight with a win in game 2. 

And while summer is on and the camps are underway throughout the districts, Stan Leech finds himself at the Texas High School Athletics Director’s Association State Conference. Boerne ISD was one of only 39 districts named a District of Distinction for this year. And all around a great title for the district, and Stan for sure is happy.
