The Boerne ISD Tennis Camp finished yesterday after a long week and there were more than 160 young athletes hitting the court… Time really flies because the fall tennis season will commence soon enough. And that also means volleyball, and football will get started. And if you took a look at our Facebook page yesterday, we made a big announcement! July 29 is the start of some new programming here on the station, including the Coach’s Show! That’s right, we’re bringing the Boerne Coach’s Show to Boerne Radio on Wednesdays live from 28 Songs on North Main. More info to come soon… we hope you’ll join us! 

What a game between Turkey and the USA in FIFA group play yesterday… A lot of the USA’s stars didn’t play or came in the game later on as this was not a must-win for the red white and blue. In the 3rd minute, Auston Trusty finds the back of the net, then in the 49th minute, Sebastian Berhalter sends one through… knotted up at 2 until additional time in the 2nd half. Over 7 minutes get added to the board. The Turkish player Kaan Ayhan scores in the last possible second off a deflection. Thanks for coming, USA… Well, Turkey had tied their other games in group play so this basically was their World Cup. The round of 32 kicks off Sunday with the only game being Canada vs South Africa. 

And the Traveler’s Championship in golf has Eric Cole currently on the board in 1st place with -7. He shot 5 birdies and 1 eagle through the first 18.

So while Independence Day is one week from tomorrow, it looks like the City of Fair Oaks Ranch is really going indie…their Patriotic Parade is happening tomorrow morning starting at 10.  You’ll see lots of decorated golf carts, classic cars and the winners of all their contests.  Then the party moves over to Cibolo Creek Community Church for more free family fun.


Now here in Boerne, our annual Fireworks show will actually be on the 4th. The 15 to 20 minute show will  take place in Boerne City Park beginning at 9pm. Lots of ways to experience the fun…Fields 1,2 and 3 will be open for you to set up camp, but you can also watch from your car.  If you happen to watch it a little further away but can’t hear the patriotic music that’s synced to the show, we have great news.  For the first time in history, Boerne Radio will be playing the same music at the same time so you can enjoy it on your car radio, or on your bluetooth speaker via your phone when you download your free Boerne Radio App!

Melissa Hinton with your Boerne Greater Chamber of Commerce, Cameron McDermid, Kristy McNelly who’s a cool painter/artist in Bergheim, Jim Jenkins and Tarah Flaherty…

If you know any of those great people let them know you heard their name on Boerne Radio.  All those folks share their birthday with Carly Simon who is 83 today, and also born on this date in 1963 the late George Michael.

Camp Mystic filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection yesterday, as the camp listed its debt at more than $10 million.  This now freezes civil lawsuits filed by victims’ families.   This summer would have been it’s 100th season. If you’ve noticed the green bows of ribbons around downtown Boerne, they were placed by a couple of former Camp Mystic campers in memory of last year's tragedy. 

 

Well save the date - July 1st - the place to be is at our Boerne Radio Richter Studio at 153 Main next to the Cork and Keg as Coach Stan Leach will be there for his live interview and book signing of his new book Athletic As A Camel.  The book is illustrated by Mykala Jones - the interview will start at 4 with Q and A from the audience - Stan will read a page or two - and then you can get your copy signed then and there.  And since we’re more that 500 yards from the school you can also get a glass of wine from the Cork and Keg if you’d like.

 

The Kendall County Historical Commission was recently awarded the 2025 Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Historical Commission. The award was dedicated to the team because of their active and well-balanced preservation program. They were recognized by the Kendall County Commissioner's Court for the award at their meeting on Monday. 

 

Kendall County Commissioner’s Court officially extended its disaster declaration for 30 more days due to the ongoing threat of the New World screwworm. This preemptive measure facilitates local coordination, public information, preparedness, and response. While neighboring counties are practicing quarantine like Bandera, Gillespie, and Kerr, there are currently still no confirmed cases within Kendall County.   To see the latest updates from the Texas Animal Health Commission visit TAHC.texas.gov.

In the World Cup, Switzerland upset Canada 2-1, and Mexico defeated Czechia 3-0. Tonight, Team USA will play Turkey at 9pm.

This weekend on the PGA Tour, it’s the Travelers Championship from Connecticut. It starts this morning… the purse for this tournament is an estimated $20 million. 

And the Spurs finished drafting yesterday- at pick 42, Ja’Kobi Gillespie from Tennessee and at 44, Maliq Brown from Duke were selected. Both bring shooting to the game unlike the picks yesterday who were forwards.
