Let’s start with some softball- a fresh new season underway as of Tuesday. The Greyhounds are in Uvalde for a tournament this weekend. They are 3-0 on the season after wins against Jourdanton, 6-0, and Palmview, 1-0. Action continues today… Champion is not partaking in a tournament this weekend, but faces Harper High School in a non-district game at home tonight at 6. 

Geneva girls basketball closed out district the other night with a win and will look ahead to the TAPPS area playoffs on Tuesday… Schulenberg High School is the site, with the opponent still unknown. And speaking of Geneva, the boys soccer team had a great season, sweeping the board and going undefeated in district. To do so, they beat Castle Hills 9-0. The playoffs await them as well. 

Both Boerne ISD high school gymnasiums will be busy tonight. The Greyhound boys host Wagner, and the Chargers will welcome Vets Memorial for home stretch district games, respectively. Tip off for both is 6:30. 

So if you happen to be watching ESPN 8 “the Ocho” at 3am you might catch a professional cornhole tournament… Well look no further than the brand new Cornhole League right here in Boerne with their debut at the Tusculum (Tusk-a-lum) Brewing Company on Main Street last night and only on Boerne Radio will you hear the results which is what you tune in for.  In 3rd place it was the team of Joe Miller and Saul Rojas.  In 2nd it was Daniel Martinez and Mike S., and bringing home the gold was Ruben Campos and Jason Robinson.  The league is called Boerne Ambush and is led by Jason Robinson.

And a few Boerne Radio Musicians and Legends born on this date. Peter Tork of the Monkees in 1942. Another Peter famous for Shocking the Monkey - Peter Gabriel born in 1950 - he turns 76 today.  Tennessee Ernie Ford was born in 1919. And American legend Chuck Yeager who was the first person to break the sound barrier as a test pilot was born 103 years ago today.

KW Boerne continues the tradition for the 4th year in a row to honor first responders with an appreciation lunch…It’ll happen next Wednesday at 11:30 in their parking lot on River Road  

 

After 18 years of service, Jill Ramsey will be stepping down from heading the Hill Country Family Services thrift store. In a dramatic declaration post on Facebook, the thrift store announced that Queen Jill would be passing the crown to Princess Toni...long live the Queen. The staff thanked Jill for her leadership and dedication for the cause, but are excited to usher in a new era under Toni’s guidance.

 

The 4th Annual Music on the Mile will be back this May, but the festival will be bigger than ever. For the first time, the music will be played over two days, and it won’t just be on the Hill Country Mile. This year’s event will expand to include additional venues, bringing even more stages, artists, food, and energy to Boerne for a full weekend celebration.

It’s Thursday February 12th. 

And born on this date in 1809 was President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. He was born in Kentucky, making him the first Commander in Chief born outside of the original 13 colonies. He wrestled as a young man and eventually was entered into the Wrestling Hall of Fame.  He grew to be 6’4”, and on the same day he was assassinated, he signed the bill that created the Secret Service.

Also born on this date Michael McDonald turns 73 today which means you’ll hear a little more yacht rock today…and here in the hill country happy birthday to Kimberly Ford in Helotes, and Megan Frazier with Frazier Healthcare Consulting!

The Boerne Fire Department had an incredibly busy day yesterday. Early in the morning they were dispatched to work on an accident that temporarily shut down Westbound I-10 at the 542-mile marker.  Later, fire crews from Boerne, Bergheim, and Sisterdale were working on a grass fire off 46 between Ammann Rd and Rust Ln. 

So no surprise, Kendall County Judge Shane Stolarczyk announced a local disaster declaration yesterday at 4 pm.  The Office of Emergency Management cited drought conditions and recent wildfires as reasons behind the decision and proclaimed that burning will be banned for the next 7 days unless renewed by the Commissioner's Court. Absolutely no burning trash or brush, no welding, or hot work.  

In place of their regular biweekly meeting, the Boerne City Council gathered for its annual Winter Workshop Tuesday night. Jeff Carroll, Boerne’s engineering and mobility Director, presented on the City’s federally funded Safe Streets for All program, which intends to identify safety improvements along key corridors. The study found that 73 percent of all crashes in Boerne occur on just 15 percent of roadways-these will become the target of improvements in the near future. The Council also focused on early budget planning for the 2026-2027 fiscal year and concluded the meeting with a forward-looking reflection exercise led by City Manager Ben Thatcher.
