It’s Wednesday June 17th.
Do you remember where you were on this date in 1994? Every major network went to a live slow-speed-chase in California as a white Bronco was pursued by Los Angeles police. More than 90 million people watched it until it ended in OJ Simpson’s home where he surrendered and was arrested with the charges of murder. OJ was pronounced not guilty by a jury of his peers on October 3rd, 1995.
And born on this date in 1943 Barry Manilow turns 83 today, he sang I Write the Songs…but did not write that song…I Write the Songs was written by Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys. Here in Boerne happy birthday to Tori Orsborn, Maria Hunt and Brett Shultz.
So even tho’ it’s the middle of June and schools out for summer, The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees are still working and they have made a couple of big announcements in that they have unanimously approved a resolution urging TxDOT to accelerate safety improvements along Highway 46 West between Interstate 10 and Highway 16. District leaders say the corridor is heavily used by students, families, staff, and school buses. Planned improvements include rumble strips, resurfacing, and turn lane upgrades. And here’s the big headline: Officials say the resolution is aimed at supporting efforts to make the roadway safer without requiring any district funding.
And yesterday morning TxDOT contractors began installing those pre-formed centerline rumble strips along the entire 11-mile corridor from IH-10 to SH 16 — the first physical safety improvement ever installed on this road. Keep in mind traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane with a pilot car leading the way through tomorrow.
Then the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees has approved a new compensation plan for the 2026-27 school year, continuing the district’s investment in employees. The plan includes salary increases for all staff, with larger raises for experienced teachers, nurses, librarians, and instructional coaches. The district is also expanding free Pre-K access to the children of all full-time employees. School leaders say the goal is to attract, retain, and support high-quality staff while strengthening student success.
