It’s Tuesday March 3rd.
And it was on this date in 1931 that Francis Scott Key’s song The Star-Spangled Banner was declared the American National Anthem by the US Congress. Key wrote the song in 1814 after seeing the American flag flying following the British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.
It’s also Primary Election Day! Here are some of the spots where you can cast your ballot here in Boerne. The City Hall training room will be open from 7 to 7 today, as well as First Baptist Church, the Kendall County Fairgrounds, The Burdick Community Center, Ninetee:Ten Church, and Boerne Bible Church. Other polls included the Bergheim VFD, the Waring Fire House, the Kendalia Community Center, the Sisterdale Community Center and Comfort Baptist.
After 25 years of dedicated service to Boerne ISD Athletics, Terry Gault is moving on. Gault spent seven years at Boerne High School and 18 at Champion High School, serving the past nine years as Assistant Athletic Director. AD Coach Stan Leach honored him in his announcement saying Terry Gault is known as a steady presence and trusted advocate for student-athletes and families, Gault is now headed to Northeast ISD as Assistant Athletic Director. Boerne ISD says he’ll be greatly missed on the sidelines and in the training room.
A Boerne Police school resource officer is taking on a new role — wildlife educator. Corporal David Chavez helped launch a first-of-its-kind partnership between Kendall Elementary and the San Antonio Zoo. Through the “Animal Connections” program, a different zoo animal visits the campus each month. The program began in January with Corporal Chavez pictured with a chinchilla Dr. Garbanzo Beans The First - and recently Yavari the Sloth visited and is already inspiring students with lessons focused on themes like patience and perseverance. The plans are to continue through the spring and possibly into summer school.
The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is removing a tree from Fair Oaks Parkway, resulting in a temporary traffic shift today and tomorrow. Fair Oaks Parkway between Oakview Pass and Pope Crossing will continue to have two-way traffic shifted to one side of the street, while the opposite side remains dedicated to tree contractors to ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.There are minor delays expected, but the work should be done quickly.
