Rock and roll legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were killed in a plane crash, along with pilot Roger Peterson. Richardson was supposed to ride the bus, but was suffering from the flu and didn't want to ride the cold bus, so Waylon Jennings voluntarily gave up his seat on the plane for him.

Congratulations to Boerne High School for being selected as a semi-finalist for the National High School Excellence Award presented by the National Football and College Hall of Fame. This achievement highlights the dual academic success and athletic capabilities of student athletes across the state, and Boerne High was only one of 9 5A districts selected.  

Over the weekend, Comfort ISD represented Region V in Corpus Christi at the FCCLA 2026 Leadership Conference. FCCLA—Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America—connects classroom learning with real-world skills, you may remember it as Future Homemakers of America. Comfort FCCLA had an outstanding showing, with 11 competitors earning gold medals and 6 more students qualifying for the State Competition later this spring.

Hill Country Family Services has a new wishlist for the month of February, highlighting the current greatest needs for the corner cupboard. This month they are asking for donations of strawberry jam, cereal, diced tomatoes, cooking oil, small laundry soap and small cans of coffee.  But cash is where your dollar goes the furthest thanks to the food bank - $25 feeds a family of 4 for a week!  See what I mean at hcfstx.org.
