It was on this date in 1941 that Italy and Germany declared war on the United States. Just 4 days after Pearl Harbor, Hitler proclaimed that the Axis Powers would establish “a new and just order”. Right.
Kendall County Commissioner’s Court has issued a fireworks restriction for unincorporated areas of Kendall County from December 20th through January 1st due to dry conditions and wildfire danger. Skyrockets, bottle rockets, and pop rockets are banned, along with any fireworks deemed unsafe by federal regulators. Other fireworks remain legal under state code. Violations carry fines up to 500 dollars.
It’s getting a little crowded in the race for Kendall County Judge. Current incumbent Judge Shane Stolarczyk is running again in March, but will have to battle two new republican candidates in the Republican Primary. Ricky Gleason threw his hat in the ring in November, now Besa Martin has announced her candidacy. Besa is a longtime resident, rancher, and attorney, Martin has served in key leadership roles, including Presiding Officer of the Texas Real Estate Research Center and director at Sonora Bank. She says her campaign will focus on protecting quality of life, improving communication in county government, and supporting law enforcement and local services.
Congratulations to Crime Analyst Tara Cantu for receiving the Certificate of Appreciation from the Leander Police Department. What began as a burglary of a vehicle in Boerne led to the identification of a ring of 7 suspects committing organized criminal activity in 30 Texas jurisdictions and 12 other states. After the burglary here in town, Tara tracked the victim’s credit cards to purchases, opened credit lines, gift card purchases, and vehicle rentals in San Antonio. The rented vehicle was later abandoned in Houston where additional crimes were committed using the victim’s stolen identity. Tara was able to obtain a facial identification of one of the female suspects and began sharing her information with other local and State agencies, including the one in Leander. Her continued efforts led to the identification of the additional suspects involved and criminal charges are being filed against the suspects as the case progresses.
